when you're young in school, and you're getting beat up by a bully.
you can take it? or you can fight back.
if you're gonna get beat up every day anyways, why not get beat up *after* you sucker punch them and kick them in the nuts.

BL Palace is pretty cool. I enjoyed a watchalong last Saturday with them watching A Man Who Defies the BL World.

As for something similar to what is being talked about here? We got two others with one being exactly like a gatekeeper that, instead of bombing the fuck out of us with one-stars, they'll just blacklist you.

First one? Yuri Garden. They originated from Novel Updates. Now, these members might be seen as similar to those in BL Palace, but they're not. They are incredibly protective and will do a mass summoning and will ensure whatever novel is "Garden Approved" makes it to Trending in hours.

To give you a clear image, BL Palace is about brand-building, but Yuri Garden is territorial.

Second one? NTR Literature Hub. Now, if anyone writes anything in their themes, and you ain't a part of their circle, you will never reach the Trending; they've basically turned defending the genre into a closed-door policy for the front page; it's a monopoly.

Oh, and if any of you from YG or NTRLH call me out on this? I want you to consider something before gaslighting me on it. Yeah, you are a Discord of friends who may not feel like you're a monopoly, but when said friends happen to own the entire front page, the difference is academic for the rest of us. There are plenty of talented authors, and artists, here.
Personally, I'd be against taking part in such activities as "review swaps" and other things of that nature.
It's dishonest, and I won't sacrifice either my own personal, professional, or creative integrity, or that of my writing, to partake in any of that.

I don't mind engaging actively with the community as a whole, or providing critiques and feedback for anyone who asks (when my time allows), but I will never participate in review swaps, or any other form of quid-pro-quo engagement boosting.

You're not wrong, it isn't illegal.
But it isn't without cost. The cost is our personal, professional, and creative integrity.

And as already mentioned, the downside is for anyone who isn't a part of it, as it stacks everything on the platform against anyone who isn't involved.

If your goal is to fight back against those "bullies" there are a number of better ways than resorting to their own approach.
As much as they may deserve it, is is far better in the long term to maintain one's professionalism and integrity, even in the face of some of their favorite tactics (IE: review-bombing), unapologetic professionalism and integrity will win out in the end where it matters.

For your readers, and their respect for you as an author.

I am (and always will be) all for resisting tyranny wherever it rears its head.
That isn't the concern. The concern is for "HOW" one goes about doing so. If we resort to the same methods they are using to bully others, that makes us no better than the bullies we are fighting against, and even if we 'win' we still lose.
If we maintain our professionalism, defend our creative integrity without apology, and still clearly articulate the flaws in their behaviors it not only reveals the bullies for who, and what, they are, but maintains our own public images as well, and will inevitably earn the respect of those who would be inclined to read our work.
This, however, is the responsibility of whomever is being targeted. Not the responsibility of outsiders.
