I think it's a solid idea but one with no real meaning as, in another thread, some people see the stars as a way to rate a story in solely technical terms (is grammar good? punctuation? structure?), some in purely emotional terms (did I like it? Do I like the author?), and others try to use both, or just go with an abstract overall "feel"
Also the fact that ratings apply to an entire book, which may or may not be actively growing, seems a little odd - ratings for individual chapters with an overall aggregate score might mean something more ... but would also probably be more effort than at least 90% of the users of the site are willing to put forth...

I think the same thing. The fact there is no objective meaning, makes me have no idea what the stars even mean. I literally do not understand them, so I don't use them, except to give a 5 star like a like or dislike.

Yeah after getting a few I realized the rating system is just a convoluted thumbs up or thumbs down as opposed to any sort of objective measurement.
I just like having people read my stories, so if I get (and keep) readers then I take that as a good indicator people like it. I like the people who leave blob_eating_cookie emojis as well.

You really can't get a good grasp on your readers sometimes. Unless you have many readers, you won't get many comments. And when you do get comments, they aren't indicative of the whole reader base. I saw some stories where there are a ton of negative comments about character actions, yet it still have a lot of readers and hearts on new chapters.

Yeah I've had that experience, although luckily I don't have too many negative commentary. I got curious and checked and my most popular series has average ~1450 views but most chapters only have 3-4 comments. So like...0.2% of the reader base.

NO! SH should switch to a "Thumbs Up" system. We even have a similar thing for chapters, hearts. Less work for Tony.

I don't really rate stories all that often, I only rate the ones I am really into and leave a strong impression. :blob_cookie:
