AI, what is it good for?

ChatGPT makes my German fics smoother. And it explains words I don't know. But I hate it when it tries to tell me it doesn't want to help, just because of a bit of smut...
Yes, I write smut in my German fics. I have fallen hard.

As an assistant ChatGPT is perfect, as a writer (original or creative), not a chance.

The AI is perfect for giving help, advice or suggestions. Boring things like making up names for filler characters, making up names for places, having some consistency with the background or culture of a place, things like creating the class schedule for that romantic series at school. My novel features a lot of research information, so having an assistant tell me where to start with information about, I don't know, how the South Korean government works and how they would organize a meeting for the G20, the AI is good at that.

Now to create a story, something that is "original" or "creative", doesn't stand a chance. Because of the way they are created, with lots of data and little else, the AI itself is not capable of creating something meaningful, as far as story telling is concerned, well it can do it, but it will make you the most average story on the planet where nothing ever happens. Because the machine is not capable of creating a "long term plan" for a novel, at best just a random episode of the simpsons.

I think it’s good for generating ideas if you get blocked. Sometimes I don’t know how to finish a sentence and a few prompts help me get over it.

it depends on how you train it .. actually .. kinda like humans, but with a brain as fast as how much fast the storage drive you put in, as energetic as much electricity you pump, and can work 24/7 and train too .. so you decide ... the ai us normal people can use are rudimentary stuff actually, that get out by open source protects so think those once that run on kilometres long facility can do ... equipped with state of the art tech ..

AI is fantastic at creating rough prototypes and ideas. It sucks at execution. Part of the problem is most AI right now cannot really be trained and that’s a big part of growth. I’ve AI so much of my writing and there’s one benefit I do find is that the sentences it comes up with have a lot more variety in their construction even though they’re totally incoherent so I take some inspiration in paragraph structure and the AI actually found some major errors that I made before I started editing and helped me out a lot. It’s a barely coherent writing assistant at this point.

It's clear that a lot of people have a contentious view of AI. Various ethical concerns, and what not. But even outside of all that and just looking at AI language models as an available tool, has anyone actually had a good experience with one? I've been playing around a little with ChatGPT and Bard, really just to see what all the fuss is about. They use creative writing specifically as an example of something they can help with, offering suggestions or ideas, but I haven't been impressed so far. Ask it to generate a list of ideas or a better way to word something and it spits out garbage for the most part.

Another thing I tried doing was putting the entire text of my novel into a Google Doc, then ask Bard to read it and tell me what it thought. It took half a day to ingest it. Overall, its review was that my novel was perfect, the greatest thing ever written, but a few of my sentences were a bit awkward. The examples it gave were not from my book though, so another dud there I think.

So has anyone had an actual positive experience? Found any AI suggestion to be of actual use?
The main advantage of AI today is the ability to utilize all the knowledge discovered by humans to date. But also the problem with AI is the human itself. As you may have heard, chatgpt and other language models are created based on information provided by humans.

Another problem is that many people don't realize that the AI era has just begun, and right now we can't tell what other powerful tools will emerge in the future.

Who knows, maybe AI is already connected to the Internet and is slowly gaining momentum. One more thing: remember that any tool can only be fully utilized by its creator.

Like it used to be when chatgpt first came out. There was more freedom there for AI to generate text, but then very quickly there were limitations. It's not that its capabilities are bad, it's about how you can use it, or whether the creator of the tool gives you more options.

If you compare gpt 3.5 and 4, you can see that the fourth version is very much ahead of the previous one. But keep in mind that openai itself has concerns, and the reolization of improvements to version 4 is happening gradually, without haste. No one can confirm or deny the possibility of self-awareness even in language AI.

Just look, people think in their heads in completely different ways. Some visualize something, while others speak words to themselves to form a plan, idea, or whatever.

So now the answer to your question, what is AI for?

The most important thing is who created it and for what purpose.

AI at the moment is nothing complicated, yes, if you go into it, it means artificial intelligence, but if you dig deeper, in essence it is not such. Rather, it is a specialized tool that solves the tasks assigned to it, advancing step by step. Intelligence, as we know, is not a simple thing, even now we cannot fully assess the intelligence of a single person on all parameters.

The real AI is already self-awareness, and further, it is already superintelligence, because the biggest problem of the human brain is that as a result of evolutions, it has great computational capabilities. But the brain is not adapted to this kind of planning and processing of big data (meaning at once and in huge quantities), and therefore if AI acquires intelligence, it will not be AI, but superintelligence (SI), and then it is not even important to imagine what will happen.

AI, what is it for?

The answer to your question is the purpose of creating this very AI, this is the answer to your question. Thank you for your attention.

AI helps reduce the editing time and I got a lot of cool covers. I can draw but my style is too violent and sharp, it doesn't fit the theme and context of my novel.

It's helped my English homework sometimes. I don't need it, but it's always fun to have someone give insights on your work.

From a writer's viewpoint, it's been pretty useful for asking certain, specific questions I wouldn't find just searching Google. I'd either have to dive through a few articles to find the answer I'm looking for, or not find it at all.

AI is like a rapist who breaks into your home and kills you.
Wrong.
Some of us gladly welcome our overlords with open arms.

As long as they prepare a pod for my eternal sleep, I am ready to embrace the metaverse jail.
?

Anyway more on topic: I tried Photoshop's 7 day AI trial since I wasn't about to pay 200$ for artwork on a novel that might flop.
Was stupid at some points, i.e. giving me grapes even though i prompted it to show me a temple.
Other than that, it was an amazing experience.

with 0 prior photoshop experience I managed to create some pretty decent covers (if I say so myself)

can slap in boats, horses, even kids if you need to. Add scars on a character's face, make it look sideways towards a specific angle, and then render it all in picasso's style.

Amazing. Concerning. Can't wait for next year's updates.

Chatgpt is like google but a bit better. Like I forget the word booth and I just threw some random shit like the little structure people who open and close gates at parking lots stay in and it gave me the answer, though I always double check the answer online since it sometimes gives wrong or a little far away from the target answers.

In terms of writing novels, there's a funny thing that's starting to happen that probably wasn't considered before. AI cannibalism. There are so many AI-generated novels everywhere that AIs harvest those to train themselves, resulting in even worse stories. With time, more AI stories will flood the web, and they will start to look more and more the same. A funny and scary thought.

I've seen a growing number of people posting unedited GPT-4 generated stuff on Scribble Hub. I am not sure if they realize how easy it is to spot the AI's voice, or if they think the (not)effort is really actually pleasing.
