I recently ran a text message through an AI Gen Z slang translator. It returned the expected slang terms but

I knew I was posting this question on one of the most vehemently anti AI populated forums there is. I was just wondering what the opinion of AI would be when it didn't directly affect literature. I really never intended to kick the Hornet's nest. But now that the stingers are out, I think I'm gonna head for the hills. Thanks for the feedback.

there's a part of me that wonders what a random paragraph of my writing would be turned into, using that translator.
then another part of me sees two characters in my book making jokes about doing it.
it is like a foreign language sometimes.

great argument for why spellcheck should never be used. it's literally the same thing as asking an ai to babysit your writing lol

Could be true. I'm normally not so fast in passing judgement on that, but mainly because I know people like that and have known them for long enough to know that they are, in fact, real. So, yeah, dumbassness is a thing, it doesn't have to be a bot. Just a loofah with legs, perchance.

Humans routinely operate on symbol manipulation without full semantic grounding allowing for fluency to exceed explicit understanding.
Or rather, people use words constantly without understanding them and yet they can still sound fluent.

English as a language has adopted a ton of words, what are the 'english' words for:
Sushi, tsunami, alcohol, cafe, cuisine, graffiti, canyon, kindergarten, angst, patio, piano, opera, volcano, safari, jungle.

All of those originate from different languages but we 'consider' them english even though they are all directly loan words.

Your 'own words', your idiolect, is just what you happen to have been exposed to, learned and chosen to use in the moment.

Spellcheck and most translators are constrained algorithms, they aren't designed to learn or take over the planet. That's why we invented most of the systems we still use today decades ago.

LLMs are generative models trained on large datasets, treating them the same is massively reductive to an entire industry.
By that same logic a basic 'hello world' script would count as 'AI' in the same sense which makes the term useless.

I just realized that I don't know off the top of my head if it's okay to even write in a different language here. For some reason, your German seems a bit forced; kind of unnatural. But maybe I'm just imagining it.
Either way, I assume you mean me, otherwise, why German after you asked if I was German? I also suspect @Assurbanipal_II could be German, and I also believe you might mean her as well. But I'm unsure.
But to state the facts: He annoyed me in another thread and after saying things that are actively in bad faith, he acted like the victim and buggered off. Whatever. Now he opened up a discussion, got hardly any responses and buggered off again. That, I commented on after he was already gone, because it's literally the moment I even realized it was that same guy (I had already long forgotten about him).
And @Assurbanipal_II just said he sounded like a chatbot. Which, well, I don't technically think so. But that's because I don't ever assume that, no matter how people act, because I've known all sorts of people online, from long before ChatGPT was a thing, that were just like this. No matter if they acted dumb or straight up weird - they were still real.
Anyway, that's hardly something I need to be ashamed of and nobody really said much to him in the first place. I can't tell what it was that made him act like someone in heavy crossfire again, but maybe you will enlighten me.
