"Faith..." Okarin murmured quietly.

"What is the difference between blind faith and idiocy? Surely, you also believe that the Rebels are a lost cause, do you not, Miss Nene? If you believed there was still hope for them, wouldn't you also want the Guild to do what they can?"

"I'm not blind... what does it matter if I bring them herbs? If I pray for them? Prayers won't stop the empire from crushing the last of them..."

"Miss Nene... I do not see a path forward. If I go by myself, it is meaningless. I can bring them water and put a bandage on someone's wound, but they will get cut down by a knights blade regardless. The rebels are cornered like rats in the very end. They will all die! What is the point? You say not to endanger myself, but isn't it full of danger if I go? Alone?"

Okarin was visibly upset.
"The differency between blind faith and idiocy? That's a complicated question... And a very loaded one as well.

"I believe The Goddess has brought me to this world for a reason. And I believe I have not fulfilled her goals for me yet, and therefore, my time here is not yet over... This blind faith on The Goddess was what allowed me to not be terrified of a demon that would eat me if I showed the slightest hint of fear to him.

"Was this my idiocy? Was I just lucky to escape that situation alive? Perhaps. But I do not believe so, I believe it was The Goddess that guided that demon of all possible ones towards me, and I believe it was her that convinced him to spare my life.

"You ask me if the rebels are a lost cause? To that I answer... That I don't know. I am not perfect, miss (?) Okarin, I am not able to always judge what is the right path.

"But I have memories... Memories of humans hunting the priestesses that I have spent my entire life with. All because of their misguided faith and belief that the non-humans and our faith should no longer exist... I do not want this fate to fall upon Scribel.

"... I have been to far too many funerals already... Is it really that bad if I want to keep that number as low as I can?

"I cannot say what is best for the rebels, I cannot condone their battle, nor can I condone any battle... To shed blood is against The Goddess' teachings... I can only pray that they chose a righteous cause, and with that, pray that The Goddess will guide them to a safe path.

"And for you... I cannot say what is best either. I see adventurers go into dangerous missions one after the other, risk their lives time and time again... Often for very noble causes... And often times, I don't see them return.

"I can only pray for their safety, and pray that they protect themselves while making their choices... But I cannot change their way of life. I cannot stop them from putting their life on the line.

"What will you do, miss (?) Okarin? No matter what you do, I will pray for you... But the outcome of your actions, depend solely on whatever you decide to act upon."

"Very, very, interesting." Seeing the strange movement, Luna attempted to use her sorcery to peek inside the mist. However, she could only see an additional part of the thing, which was looking at Okarin.

"Well, don't be afraid. You need to have a strong mind to accomplish great things. If you can't eradicate the god who the Holy Human Empire worshipped, then all would be for nought, isn't it? After all, mortals, are merely the means to help gods. However, if they decided to get serious, then they could descend and get the job done in a matter of days, if not hours." Remembering the power of the Lord, Luna trembled, not in fear, but excitement. That's the peak of sorcery, and that's her goal. She would do anything to get there.

"Fall a god and obtain their divinity— Isn't the thought of such thing so wonderful?" Luna accidentally muttered to herself.

OOC: Well, I guessed Luna had become the devil that slowly lured an innocent soul into the path of blood and gore... Well, for the interesting plot! :blob_salute:

"Who knows? Maybe they aren't that bad against the non-humans. After all, there is no eternal enemy, only eternal benefits."
"Mhm?"

For a moment Ego's colour scheme underwent a complete contrast, as if the girl was a photo rendered in the negatives. Then Ego giggled again and her colours returned to normal.

"It's bad manners to peep, missy~ If you wanted to look in my book, all you had to do was ask, you know?"

"Won't you just decline my request like before? Well, what's the fun if no one's going to try to uncover your secret?" Not wanting to anger the girl, Luna decided to stop her action. Although she was curious, it was unwise to be offending the thing of unknown nature.

"You say that I could borrow your book?" Luna tried a different tactic this time.

They closed their eyes.

"Would it be selfish... to refuse to bloody your own hands?"

"To find fault in... the people who kill... in order to protect the peace for countless others?"

"Or the people who fight... because their people are slaughtered on the streets on the city like pigs every day."

"The people who rise up against a terrible suffering and injustice."

"Or would you rather have them bow down and quietly accept slavery by humans forever?"

Two empty pages. No, something was slowly coming to focus on the pages. A little girl in a simple dress. A simple background of roughly-sketched trees. And a bear standing in a bush, behind the girl.

"Memory of the distant past? Something worth remembering? I don't really know... However, this book— It is intriguing." "Not bad perspectives to look at it, all things considered. Until one flips over the last page and reads the epilogue, who knows how a story ends? And there's no right or wrong answers, either."

Ego smiled. She stayed where she was from Okarin's perspective, but in Luna's perspective the grinning girl slowly floating over to rest behind Okarin, before leaning closer to blow into her ears.

With a clap of her hands the image changed once more; now a circle of what appeared to be laurel leaves appeared in the centre, forming a perfect circle which was left blank and empty.

The same circle of laurel leaves had appeared on the fresh page, and this time within it was one of a shadow on the road, casted by a tiny figure standing before the setting sun. Once more Ego presented a folded square to Luna.

"The journey doesn't stop when the story ends. It only finishes when the reader decides it does. But don't keep the knight waiting too long, mhm?"

Luna gladly took the folded paper. She looked at it in closer detail before putting it into the bag. She would experiment with it when she had the time.

"Maybe, the lady wouldn't wish to return. If she returned, then what would she do? The knight's heart had already died along with her. If she returned, what would become of the knight?

"As you say, the story only finished when the readers decided it does— Then, who are these readers?" Picking up some weird lines, Luna started to question back.

"Is it really okay for me to take this?"

Okarin tilted their head and peered at Ego's book.

"Will your book be okay? Will it be sad? It's missing a page."

"So you say. The book is missing a page if one of it's pages is torn out and given away. And yet, the missing page is right in your hands, is it not? If so, then that page is not truly missing, and if the page isn't missing, then the book should be fine, should it not?"

Ego pointed to the places where she had torn off two pages from, yet there was no blemish, no torn edges, nothing that would have suggested that the book was lacking pages in the first place.

"Sometimes, all it takes is a thought to give substance to the formless. Just be careful what you think of~ And as for the readers...hmm. Well, if you haven't much of an inkling, then neither do I. Which means it's very open to interpretation, aye? There's one theory that believes that everything in it's entirety is but a construct of a dreamer, and returns to nothingness once he wakes. Who could say~?"

Winking, Ego closed her book and stowed it back in wherever she had pulled it from in the first place.

"Well, the surest way to find out is to look down from the peak of the world... To turn everything over and search in an unobstructed manner." Luna suddenly got a little crazy again.
