Lisette still had her eyes closed, but her senses were on overload. Sweet scent — soft clicking of stones - intense light she just knew had enveloped the area — and what felt like hands wrapping around her wrists to yank her forward

But it was gone as the command word: Gandr was spoken. Lisette opened her eyes as she stared up at her rescuer to be.

”Lesson learned, won’t do that again!” Lisette chirped, shakily raising her hand up to salute, her legs shaking slightly as she thought Yeah, that was a bit too close to home.

“I’m guessing this one was an exception?” The first year looked around to find several books and tomes scattered on the ground. Luckily none of them seemed damaged.
"Yep, seems like the Library ghost was feeling quite playful today."

Swir smiled reassuringly as she offered her hand to Lisette to pull her up. It was a completely different story on the inside.

That damned thing actually dared to act up while I was around. Looks like I'll have to inform the Headmaster to close the Library for another day for 'structural repair and restocking' again...

Continuing to smile, Swir stared at the direction in which the entity had disappeared to, and finally turned to look at Lisette.

"Well, that's one of the Wonders. The good news is, it'll probably leave us alone for the rest of the night. Let's go back to the entrance."

”It did say he wanted to play.” She accepted Swir’s hand to pull herself up off the ground. ”Duly noted, good thing nothing else that was bad happened!” She looked at all the books on the ground, and then back up on the shelves. There were plenty of empty spaces where those books were pulled from.

She could only imagine the horror the head librarian would have seeing this mess.

“If it really wanted to play, it could learn how to clean up too.” Lisette shook her head, as she looked to Swir. “Thank you Swir, not sure what would have happened if you weren’t here.” She giddily rubbed the back of her neck and winced. Ahhhh, okay maybe books do hurt more than chalk.

She smiled, sticking close to Swir’s side. This time, she was determined not to leave more than 5 centimeters away from her senior. Lesson learned, don’t leave the party.

“Where’s Yurei? Will she be okay?” Lisette asked, looking up and around the library Entrance.

"No worries, though I have no doubt the Library will be partially closed off tomorrow whilst myself and a bunch of the Library committee members clean up the place. It's happened before."

Sighing at the thought, Swir flicked a single pebble onto the centre of the mess before escorting Lisette back to the entrance. She took out the key.

"Don't worry about Yurei, she's seen this song and dance before. Besides, she's already left for the night. Are you injured anywhere?"

Lisette nodded with an understanding, it seemed like she had done this type of thing before. “That’s unfortunate for any students wishing to use the facility, but it’s probably for the best.“ It was a stunning library though, despite its wonders, mysteries, and chilling dangers at night.

“Oh good,“ She sighed in relief about Yurei not staying in the library alone. “Injured? Oh, there just some minor bumps, scratches and bruises.” She flicked her arm up to show a bruise showing up just above her bicep. She could feel another bruise forming on her neck.

“Hopefully this doesn’t change anything for the piano player—right? I didn‘t ruin the night excursion did I?” Lisette looked at Swir with a dejected face.

"Haha, no worries."

Swir checked the time just to be sure, then pocketed her watch. She pulled two chairs such that they were side-by-side, then sat down on one of them. She then gestured to the other chair, then to her lap, then ---

"Lie down for a bit. It's only 1.30AM, so there's still a bit more time before the performance while I patch you up. After that, we can lock up and make for the music block."

Yep. Swir was offering a lap pillow.

:blob_aww: :blob_aww: :blob_aww:

Lisette laid down as instructed, she positioned her body on the opposite chair so that her legs dangled up and down off the end. Her head rested evenly on her lap as she smiled brightly up to her. “I haven’t done something like this since I was a kid.” Lisette laughed happily soaking any attention she got.

“Hey Swir,” She looked up at her with her bright ash brown eyes, “What do you think about—” Lisette was going to mention reincarnation, but the thought died in her throat, so instead she just sputtered “souls.” Souls? Really Lisette, such a strange thing. But it might be harder to be like: Oh hey, by the way I’ve been reincarnated into an Otome game because I previously died from an illness, and as such some goddess decided to bring me here— what does that say about my soul? Blah blah

I was just thinking about the ghosts and all, I hope they find some semblance of peace.” Lisette explained as she stared up.

"You really are a good kid."

Swir worked her rune magic, numbing the bruises with slight chills, tracing her fingers across the outlines of the bruises and scrapes, concentrating on the task but sparing enough attention to consider the question.

"I don't know."

She gave that answer after a long while, long after her hands had finished patching Lisette up.

"The ones who have found peace have long since moved on. What remained are the ones who haven't --- the betrayed, the lost, the forgotten. They still have unfulfilled regrets that anchor them to reality, and until those are undone, they won't be going anywhere. Or there's something they don't want to let go."

The absentminded Swir patted Lisette, ruffling her hair.

"Shall I tell you a story to pass the time?"

Monday
Verity got up early for breakfast, grabbing her meal and sneaking off to eat by herself. Luckily nobody found this behavior too strange managed to escape the attention being one of the few students up so early afforded her.
Principles of Poison
Verity arrived to class early, and waited nearby to avoid being the first person in. Minutes past and as the class time approached nobody else seemed to arrive. Steeling herself and walking in Verity was surprised to find two people already inside conversing in the corner. The class was well taught, if only covering the true basics for now.

Magic 1
Magic 1 was full of students. Verity managed to enter behind another group of girls and find a seet in the middle to avoid people noticing her silence. The trick always was to blend in rather than outright hiding. Makes it easier for people to dismiss you once spotted.

Lunch
Verity was unable to simply sneak into the cafeteria but there so many people she wasn't singled out in the growing throng of students

Artifacts 1
Verity was able to once again blend into the crowd, not garnering attention

Astronomy
Astronomy was fine, for the most part. Things were going well until the teacher called on Verity for an answer. She nearly panicked but was saved when whoever the studen behind her was spoke up assuming they were the one called on. They even got the question right and luckily the teacher decided not to push the issue.

Once class was done Verity made her way swiftly back to her room, before locking herself inside. Only as the lock clicked into place did she realise what she'd done, and just how many peolple she could have talked to. Aw well, I can always try tomorrow

Enjoying the feel of someone brushing through her hair, she lulled herself into a quiet state, listening contentedly to her explain why some ghosts remain. Lisette wondered if this world was also something similar to that, where she was anchored down by her own demons unable to attain the rest she probably needed.

The warmth of energy that flowed from Swir’s runes over her felt nice, it reminded her of a warm spring day surrounded by fresh, clean linens hung out on the line. She basked in the energy, and even when the warmth faded, her ruffling her hair was enough to soften up in expression.

“I always enjoyed a story.” Lisette beamed up in delight to Swir. “Please do.”

"Very well. I shall tell you my favorite story when I was younger. There was another place, a place and a time---"

Arching her head back, Swir stared at the ceiling for a few moments, recollecting her thoughts.

"Farther than far and longer than long. In the beginning, there was nothing at all. Then salt water met fresh water, and from the meeting sprang the first life. The oceans of plenty filled the hollowed abyss, and nothingness congratulated creation, for all manner of life originated from the primordial sea."

A soft sigh.

"Alas, as with all good things, peace didn't last forever. It begun with a betrayal from the father, soon to escalate to his sons below. The brood that sprang forth desired more than to be bound to the place of their birth, and that led to war. The mother, fearing for the safety of her children, sold out her own husband, and watched as he was struck down and cast into the abyss. She did not have to do anything else; just the fact that she had stood and watched meant that she had chosen her children over her husband."

The story had given her nightmares when she'd read it the first time, but it was, in a horrible way, a memorable one.

"In the end, however, the children she'd raised and cherished turned on her as well, and slew her in cold blood. And with her corpse, they made heaven and earth, and the story goes on."

Swir looked down to observe the girl lying on her lap.

"How was it?"

Lisette gaped. What—do I think? She thought about her initial feelings about it, and then possibly to the moral behind the story —ah, but who was she kidding, she wasn’t that smart to read through all the lines.

“That story had quite a hopeless situation — and — I guess that makes it a little sad. In order to gain something; to change something so desperate, something had to have been lost in return.“ Lisette looked up at Swir, and she raised her hand up to touch her cheek lightly. “And the children, they only learned that through the actions of their own mother. I wonder what that mother felt in her last moments.”

Lisette smiled despite the heavy story tones, “Quite the storytelling, and something to bring about the nightmares if one isn’t too careful. But I don’t know, it had great imagery!”

Despite herself, Swir grinned.

"I thought so. In fact, I've pretty much held onto the opinion you've brought up for quite a while. Then another friend I shared this story with spoke of a different opinion; a fledgling's desire to spread it's wings and leave the nest. He said, and I quote, 'They must have wanted to explore more than just the world their mother allowed them to see, and out of her love for her children she ultimately allowed it --- despite it ending with her death. In the end, she was, essentially, an overprotective parent whose role ended once she'd brought them up.'"

The grin turned into a wistful smirk.

"He was quite the smartass. But he was also quite right --- someone has to do the job of looking after all of you humans."

She didn't seem to realise what she'd said.

”Huh, that‘s definitely an interesting takeaway from that — an overprotective parent, and children leaving the nest.” Lisette chuckled, “A smartass huh, but he seems like a very good friend.“

And Lisette pondered, Wait, looking after all of you humans? That’s a strange thing to say.

“Is it your job to do so?” Lisette asked, and smiled all the same. “I thought that was the job of the Goddess.” Lisette chuckled. “She must enjoy these games of her’s huh?” She said it in a joking manner, but deep down she believed every word she spoke. And this would be Lisette’s way of finally voicing that this world was that Goddess’ game. She figured it would be taken as a figure of speech and then she felt a heavy thump on her stomach.

Groaning, she looked down at her sternum to see the black cat that had joined them earlier making itself cozy. “Ahh—hang on we might be heading out soon!” Lisette went to rub its ears as she admonished it.

"...Heh?"

Wait, I thought I finished the sentence after the word smartass. Did I really just...

Dumbfounded by her own accidental stupidity, it took a while for Swir to respond. And when she did, it wasn't to dismiss the mishap as an accident or to glare at the cat, but rather a quiet question.

"If I said that it was truly my job to look after humans..."

Cath Palug leapt nimbly onto her shoulder, settling there.

"...Would you still be my friend?"

Almost as if some sense of seriousness washed over her, her aloof and giddiness slipped away for just a moment as she looked up. She stared at Cath Palug nestling into Swir’s shoulder. She too, answered with a quiet voice. “If I said there was a reason I was here in this moment, in this time of need—

If I’m going to be smited, you better smite me down Abyss Demon, if not you can go screw yourse—The inexplicable string of words in her mind poured liked water.

And then she pulled herself up from Swir’s comfy lap to smile brightly. “Then yes, I would be someone whom you cold rely on and depend upon to support you. I would definitely be your friend.” Lisette felt a bit of the weight on her shoulder’s life a bit.

“I thought we were already friends anyways?” Lisette giggled to relieve any possible tension between them.

"...Ufufu. You humans are a complicated breed."

Swir allowed herself a laugh, before offering a hand to pull Lisette up.

"It's about time we attended the piano concert. I, for one, cannot wait to listen to Bagatelle Number 25 in A minor once more."

“Yup, through and through!” She smiled widely, accepting the help up and rolling her neck one way to another, She was really looking forward to hearing the concert, especially to hear Bagatelle whatever number she said play beautifully.

”I’ll let you lead the way, I am absolutely thrilled to hear this.”

The echo of high keys could be heard once they'd passed by the greenhouse.

Once the building itself came into view, a faint tune could be heard.

"Oh my. Usually he takes it nice and easy, but tonight he's practically an entire orchestra. We'd better not disturb him, then."

*****

The unseen grand piano performance came to an end at the exact stroke of 4 in the morning, and Swir walked the practically asleep Lisette to her dorm room. She then left the sleepy girl on her bed, locked the door, and opened the window.

"Ah, just a second."

Smirking, Swir left a slip of paper on Lisette's desk. A form filled and signed by the infirmary nurse (obtained in the afternoon), stating that the girl would be 'recuperating in her room' due to 'a sudden case of insomnia'.

"That should do it. To think this slip of paper would be more convincing than an hour long sermon...well, I'd never!"

Giggling, Swir exited from the window, and made her way back to her own dorm room to write a report regarding the library incident.

Tuesday:

Early in the morning, Eudes headed to the Cafeteria and took one hell of a heavy breakfast. In term of quantity, it was comparable to lunch for four people. Despite planning to sit at an empty table, shortly after, his sister arrived and sat in front of him.
"Morning bro. How was your first day? Wait wrong question, how many hours?"
"Two hours..."
"Tsk. Only two?! Damn it. I lost my bet."

Elvire seemed to be annoyed by her brother's lack of mischiefs. Of course, it was only because of a bet, otherwise, she would prefer for him to be disciplined. In any case, both of them ate, each of them sharing their day and telling them what happened.
"Huh. Surprisingly... you'd a quiet day."
"And you're the one in troubles, huh."
Ironically, his sister was in troubles with some of her classmates. She needed money and thus borrowed money from a classmate she trusted. Unfortunately... well, here is the problem. Paying back with interests was not a problem, but it depends on the interests... In any case, she should soon be done. Just a week and every debt will be settled.
"What's her name? If I meet someone from her family, I can beat them up. And call that 'interests.'"

Giggling, she waved her hand and left. Actually, no. It was a tempting offer, she turned back and whispered to his ear the targets' surname: "D. Cezac. And well, it's the youngest daughter. Don't do anything stupid, okay?" That's a given.
Once she left, Eudes finished his breakfast, he returned to the dorms, took a quick shower-- without towel of course. Who needs a towel when the wind is there to dry you? Jokes aside, he quickly wiped his skin. Nonetheless, his hair was still pretty wet.
  • Arcane I:
Arriving late, Eudes felt perplexed about this class. Why? That is simple, according to what he knows. The definition of Arcanic is what is considered to be secret, incomprehensible to common sense and such. Then, if we take the noun, it's simply a tarot. Perhaps, it should be called Mysticism or Esoterism? Shame he did not read any kind of those books. In any case, it seemed that the teacher was keen on rituals? Bah!
  • Lunch:
This time, he decided to take his time at the Cafeteria. Since he left class, Eudes kept sighing, because he knew. A few pairs of eyes were stuck on him, lurking. Basically, some students were following him. Two possibilities: His sister or-- the kid he overworked the previous day.
Worst case, it's both.
In any case, he only left the Cafeteria around 1:10PM. Of course, he acted as if he was late and thus started running, hurriedly. At this moment, they stopped following him.
  • Healing I:
The worst course. On top of that, he already knew some concepts of Healing Magic... his sister kept harassing him to help her review her classes. She needed someone to interrogate her. Bah! Perfect time to take a nap!
  • Archaic Language:
While it was named Archaic Language-- it was not only about the language, it also included history, culture and such stuff. The teacher only presented what they were going to do this year. She also recommended some books to read, most of them were about History rather than grammar and such...
  • History:
This professor was straightforward. They entered, he stared at the students till they were quiet and then he started to teach. For some reasons, his presence itself was oppressive. As if the moment spoke, he would unleash hell on them.
"I prefer people who sleep rather than speak. Or at least, if you want to be considerate. Quit the class and never come back."
For Eudes, it was interesting. At least, he liked the professor's abrasive personality. It was someone who wanted to teach, no more, no less. At some point, to test out the waters, Quesnel asked a question and a precise and lengthy explanation was provided.

'Wait. Why do I prefer this teacher rather than the kind ones...'
  • Basic Economics:
Now? Eudes slept. When woken up and interrogated, he replied to questions and even went further than just "Basic Economics." Despite that, the teacher pointed out a problem-- he only had theories and no example. Likely, he could not take an Earth-like example, could he?
  • Evening:
Skipping dinner and directly heading towards his room. Eudes then left the door ajar and observed through the gap. He was able to notice a few students, who seemed to be annoyed. They were speaking, complaining about him-- that's for certain, they were the ones who were stalking him.
"Aww, man. I am too successful, am I not?" He closed and locked the door.

Laughing bitterly, he wondered how to proceed. Perhaps leave after the curfew and pay a visit to his sister in the dorms? Yanno, maybe she knows something. Bah, let's just take a nap in the meantime.

Reaching the classroom for Advanced Economics, I saw Isaac leaning against the wall outside. He noticed me and smiled before opening the door for me, "Thank you." I then proceeded to enter the room and take a seat between two other students, not allowing Isaac to sit with me. After all, I was still displeased about how he was acting earlier and I didn't want to talk to him.

The class went by smoothly, with lots of info given that I thought would prove useful to help boost the growth of my family's business. The homework given proved even more helpful as it asked for examples of pre-existing business models that seemed outdated for the current time. Although I felt sorry for my parents and older relatives, I knew that our business model would be a perfect example of poor models for the current economic climate. With such thoughts in mind, as soon as the bell rang for the end of class, headed straight for my next one which would prove even more helpful for my family's business: Magical Embroidery.

Luckily, Isaac didn't share this class with me, so I didn't need to worry about ignoring him for now. In the class, our teacher introduced a new stitching technique that would incorporate the use of different spells to aid in the process, along with melding different materials of thread through without incompatibilities appearing. Our homework was to magically embroider an image depicting the Goddess in some way using this new technique. It could be on any kind of item so long as it could be carried with ease. I wondered whether a some kind of handkerchief would work but then passed on that idea upon the thought of someone releasing their snot on the image of the Goddess. Thus, I had to think more on it.

Lunch passed quickly for me as I grabbed a simple chicken and sweetcorn sandwich and a cereal bar before heading to a quiet spot outside to eat my lunch in peace. Afterwards, I headed to the Library for a recreational read before checking my watch to see it was time to do the afternoon patrol. Although my route was still going to be the same as usual, I decided to start it in a different place this time since I was not ready to be alone with the Secretary quite yet. As such, it wasn't until about halfway through that we finally met up, with him looking somewhat out of breath for some reason. "Is that a cut near his mouth?"

"Good afternoon." I said curtly, before resuming my patrol. I heard him give his own greeting before he turned silent and began walking beside me. From the reactions of the students going by us, Isaac seemed to have eased up on the glaring, which made me feel more relieved.

"How did you get injured? Does it hurt?" I asked, while pointing my finger at the corner of my mouth and tapping it while looking at him to show I'd noticed his injury. He put his fingers to the cut and didn't answer for a few seconds before stating it was probably caused from the Advanced Magic Swordsmanship class he'd just had. "I see. Well...make sure to get it treated at the Infirmary, then." I said with a small smile. I glanced at him to see a relieved smile on his face, followed by him saying, 'Ouch!', from the apparent pain of the cut. I giggled a little at his silliness before we continued our patrol.

The rest of the day went by without problems, only that in the evening when I was doing my Magic Embroidery practice the Second Year noble girl who had slapped me earlier knocked on my door and wanted to apologise for jumping to conclusions. I said it was fine and even gifted her the purse I'd just finished magic embroidering as a sign that I had forgiven her. She showed surprise and sincerely thanked me for the purse - marvelling at how lifelike the peacock seemed. I explained that the peacock worked as a protection against theft, along with releasing a peacock feather and guiding the owner to the purse if it ended up lost. I showed her how to activate ownership of the item before saying my goodbyes to her.

After doing my evening prayers and religious contemplation, I then turned in for the night while hoping Lisette managed to sort out the forms she needed to do and was staying safe. "She's such a good and well-behaved girl." I thought as I closed my eyes.

[OOC: Will post Wednesday stuff when someone else has posted, so I don't double post rp
@Tessa_Renalds for mentioning Lisette in passing.]
