    Reading with cover or not?

As a consumer: If I'm looking for a new comic or webtoon to read, then I'll definitely look for a good cover. For books, I look for a nice premise written within the synopsis, then the title itself. The cover is just an extra touch that lets me know the author is willing to put up some extra...

    Is this paragraph awkward?

Is it awkward? Yes. It could be split into several different paragraphs. There are too many topics being discussed at the same time. This could be a paragraph on its own. Expand on it like it is introducing or transitioning to the next. Next paragraph. Expand on it. If "for the two of...

I Spat On The Eye of The God

I Spat On The Eye of The God Maybe I'm blind, but that title seems pretty click-bait to me. Now, I'm not putting you down for making a vid since that takes time and effort. However, the way this thread was presented was...well let's call it what it is: it was an advertisement. A personal pet...

I Spat On The Eye of The God

I mean, it does suffer from some issues, like many stories in the same genre... But what's the deal with the click-bait title? Is it to rile up fans to get more views? I feel like I'm being duped into watching a video when criticism could easily have been put into words. Especially when...

    Corrections and anxiety.

Feedback will come in time. Unfortunately, anything substantial won't arrive until you've published a decent amount of work (10-15 or more chapters) unless there are obvious changes that need to be made. As for chapter issues, building from a basic outline helped me in terms of the direction I...

    Corrections and anxiety.

Others have suggested this on the forums, so I'll give you a good tip: use the Grammarly site / chrome extension. The advantage of the extension is that it works on scribblehub, and will automatically underline problem areas. It is a great tool. However, just like the spell-check function on...

The most overrated medieval / fantasy weapon

Here's another: wielding swords or knives with an icepick grip (or reverse grip). For knives, its only practical when using the knife as a tool for grappling or hooking. For swords...no, just no. The grip is neither good for thrusts nor slashing. Reach advantage is also diminished.

The most overrated medieval / fantasy weapon

As much as I abhor partaking in internet quibbles, here's some facts: "The shield was developed for mounted cavalry, and its dimensions correlate to the approximate space between a horse's neck and its rider's thigh." "Though their great length and unwieldy nature made them cumbersome and...

The most overrated medieval / fantasy weapon

'Some' curved blades, like sabres, are cavalry weapons, not all. What you are saying is akin to proposing that all knives are meant for cutting butter and nothing else, or that kite shields, which are shields specifically designed for horseback, can only be used on a horse...which is absolutely...

The most overrated medieval / fantasy weapon

Just use curved blades like a cutlass, falchion, falx, kukri, or bolo. MUCH better than going full cliche.

    Your Writing Routine...

For a productive writing session, I: [1] Make tea or coffee or grab a glass of water [2] Open my document file for my current story arc [3] Go to YouTube and play my 'rain sounds' playlist [4] Develop a rough outline of how I want the chapter to play-out [5] Start writing the chapter without...

How many chapters do you expect per week for ongoing novel?

I feel this method is fine so long as you already have the backlog to do it. I just find that a lot of authors that post almost daily have the opposite issue -- that they have no backlog and are trying to keep up with their own status quo to keep readership engaged.

    Back from the Hiatus Hell

Genuine question: Why do most people go on hiatus? Is it to pad more chapters for your novel? Or is it because you ran out of ideas or burnt out? Wouldn't adjusting your release schedule help you out of this predicament? Changing from multiple published chapters a week to just one a week will...

How many chapters do you expect per week for ongoing novel?

My perspective on the question as an author: Chapter releases should really be up to the author, not the audience. If you want to write a lot of garbage, go for it. Your progress to becoming a better writer will be hindered, but you will please the masses of readers you may or may not have...

    Description or Dialogue...

Whichever is most suitable for transitions, exposition, or moving the plot along. Either can accomplish what I had mentioned. I found that readers tend to see overly descriptive sections of my own work to be less immersive, so I've changed things in my newer chapters to have my MC deliver some...

Recommendations Chinese Fantasy Novels Without Nationalism

'Release That Witch' is a good novel about kingdom building, war strategy, and plenty of fantasy and science mixed-in. If there were any elements of Chinese nationalism involved in the plot, it was either cleverly hidden or I didn't notice. It also doesn't have your stereotypical ruthless male MC.

    Law of Magic

I've hinted at a magic system in my story, and I call it Natural Energy, which oddly sounds like "mah-jyk" in the common tongue of the world. I haven't actually explored it yet due to reasons (spoilers), but the system is currently setup as another form of energy present only in rocky planets...
