    Writing Prose quality check?

Overall, there is no singular standard for quality beyond the intent and style you are trying to convey. That's part of the beauty of artistic expression in any medium. If you are aiming for a dense, detailed, descriptive and classical style, this sample would be horrendous, as it fails to...

Do you ever ‘cast’ your characters?

Even as a thought-exercise, I don't typically spend time with this kind of thing, because even in the infinitesimal chance of such a thing actually happening with my fiction, I'd probably tell most of those mainstream sources to either fuck off, or would ensure that I have full oversight and...

When killing off an important character, friend, brother or someone important to The MC. How do you feel about it?

As an author, I just do what is narratively fitting for the story. I do have a number of rules for my writing that I follow with all of my stories. First and Foremost is: "No Plot Armor". Toward that end, every action, or inaction as the case may be, a character takes will have consequences...

Anyone interested in cyberpunk (and whump)?

A few things here. 1) I have no clue what a "Whump" is either. Never heard of it. 2) I'm intrigued, and will definitely add this to my list as something to check out when I can. 3) This is just a technicality, but the game Cyberpunk 2077 is, itself, a derivative work set in a pre-existing...

    Prophecy Feedback?

It's solid. The only suggestions I had, I believe I left for you in the critique I sent. If not, I certainly meant to, so I'll leave it here too. Consider the source of said prophecy. Who said it? Where is it recorded (if it is)? How is it recorder (if it is)? How do the present-day people know...

Which odd weapon would you like to see represented more?

What era are we talking about? And in what scope? Full warfare? Individual wielders / duels? Era shapes technology, and from that, weapon availability. Scope also shapes the scale of weapon use. Individual-Based Halberds Pila (Singular: Pilum) Bec de Corbin War Scythe Large-Scale Scorpion...

    Is 9k words too much?

Overall, no. It isn't too much when you're writing for print. As for uploading though, I'd still recommend splitting it into parts. For example: Chapter 1 part 1 and Chapter 1 part 2, and so on. I've had to do the same myself with The Elarian Chronicles, as both Chapters 1 and 2 were well over...

What do you think of this character introduction?

Thank you for the input. As for the "Orcs" vs "Orks" the decision didn't have anything to do with Warhammer, but it is true, that GamesWorkshop did opt for the same spelling for Orks in their setting. Also, thank you for taking the time to note that there is additional context beyond the two...

My target is the Japanase LN readers. Is it good to use "telling" more often rather than "showing"?

What's a "twilight" thingy? (If it isn't obvious, this is sarcasm. I also self-selected out quite early on for both.) But yes, overall that is the rough target reading level for Light Novels. [~Middle School to High School] Some Light Novels aren't that bad though. They make for easy reading...

My target is the Japanase LN readers. Is it good to use "telling" more often rather than "showing"?

Light novels aren't graphic novels (though many also feature character art inserts between chapters). They're novels that are typically quick and easy reads (Young-Adult Reading levels typically). Several popular ones are also rendered in anime format, and manga format as well though.

What do you think of this character introduction?

Thank you both for the input. The actions are coming soon enough, and I do have a clear mental picture of how to incorporate them into the descriptions (Like I also tend to prefer). I also do have a fair bit of dialogue drafted up for him, and will be incorporating a fair bit of the suggestions...

What do you think of this character introduction?

I figured that was easy to infer with the mention of his smirk, but a bit more clarity probably couldn't hurt. I appreciate the input, and will consider some additional revisions where they may be necessary, primarily to the opening paragraph. As for the specific color and references to the...

Who are some of your most memorable villains? (And why?)

Good news, El. An Anti-Villain is still qualifies as a type of villain, so they are still a "Villain" here. The only true difference between the two is motivation. Villains (like The Joker) take a certain pleasure in their role. Anti-Villains do the Villainous thing for some misguided reasons...

My target is the Japanase LN readers. Is it good to use "telling" more often rather than "showing"?

I do read a few Light Novel series as well. That said, the style isn't really more about "telling" or "showing", but rather the execution and blend of both to create and sustain your pacing. The genre also will really help to shape the present ideals, however I would still encourage breaking the...

Who are some of your most memorable villains? (And why?)

Seeing as how I've been working on the opening of Chapter 3 of Duskfall, and doing so introduces one of that series' main, recurring, antagonists it's gotten me thinking. Who are some of the most memorable villains my fellow authors here have created for their own stories and why were those...

Can a slow-burn military fantasy survive without an OP protagonist?

From what I can gather, you have yourself a clear target audience. So the advice I'd offer is this: Write for your target audience. Don't waste time trying to please everyone, because that is an effort doomed to failure. What matters is whether your target audience likes your work. To be...

What do you think of this character introduction?

Not good at giving feedback? That seems pretty good to me. And yes, you definitely nailed it on this bit too. That's dead-on for his character archetype. The rest, that was all really helpful. It's your opinion, and sharing that helped me a lot here. More than you may even realize. So thank...

    How to write previous relationships.

Beat me to it... but here's the meme anyway. See the meme? Do the meme. You SHOW it through present-day interactions. Maybe have one or both of them, or others who witnessed what happened from the outside, mentioning it in passing. You don't need to go into detail on the past events. If you...
