    Preferences with Characters

    1. Hard to answer - all types are good when handled well. I do love (genuinely) competent MCs, and sometimes eccentric ones. 2. Also very difficult~! Villains who are easy to hate are fun sometimes, as long as they're allowed to be people in their own right. Complicated villains are great too...

Is there a difference between Dark and Horror?

I made an unofficial guide to Scribble Hub's genres here, if you're coming at them for the first time: https://forum.scribblehub.com/threads/genre-explanations-unofficial.3634/ Novels that are described as "dark" are just stories that focus on darker themes. That usually means centring around...

Writing How do I properly portray autism in a characte and where do I even start researching this shit like god damn I can't fuck this up this shit's volatile

First, don't use Autism Speaks. They're basically an anti-autism hate group. Secondly, researching the possible symptoms is a good way to start. You can find out about how it often presents in men and women differently, and I think I remember reading that it's harder for women to be diagnosed...

    Allow us to filter "Previews"

I agree - it would be nice to know ahead of time whether an author intends to post their full work here or not. Novels being dropped or going on hiatus is normal and nothing you can fault an author for. Readers know they're taking a gamble. If it's a preview, that's not so much a gamble as the...

i have compassion fatigue please cheer me up

These Positive Pokemon Affirmations by Fable Fire (https://fablefire.tumblr.com/) always help me: Simple feel-good films are my go-to, too. I personally like Barbie films for full wholesome recharge but, if that's not your thing, "Strange Magic" is a little more "mature". If you're not put...

Why do many authors use covers that they got from Google?

You may not be, but I know there are definitely people who do try to use this method to produce "change". Might as well induce some critical thinking in those folk.

Why do many authors use covers that they got from Google?

That may be but, if anyone is planning to use this method to try and pressure authors to change, they should know that it won't work if you essentially punish someone for having a novel cover you deem "too good for them", rather than based on following or not following copyright laws.

Why do many authors use covers that they got from Google?

Some people have permission to use the art, rare as it is, or actually buy them from stock image sites. You can't really tell until you check for credit on the synopsis, usually.

    I can't see reviews

You can't do that on Scribble Hub. But you can report troll ratings, if you suspect that's what's happening.

Why do many authors use covers that they got from Google?

Won't you end up punishing people who don't have stolen art like that, though, just based on stereotypes?

What makes you want to comment?

I try to comment as much as possible, but sometimes I'm too tired or I really can't think of anything to say. I tend to hold back from commenting on older chapters, since it feels like I'd be bothering the author with comments they no longer care about. I also gauge how friendly the author...

    How essential are the tags?

Gender Bender is a genre that existed long before Scribble Hub, and is broad by its nature, just as "fantasy" is. All those tags associated with GB can also be used outside of the GB genre. The GB genre says something very specific about how the story is going to treat them. Just because you...

    How essential are the tags?

Looking at your story, it's a tragedy romance? There should be a fair handful available to you. What tags would you add if you could? I was talking about the cap on using existing tags - right now, you can only use 25 tags for your novel. As for adding tags directly, I remain dubious about...

    How essential are the tags?

While it's annoying at times, having no cap on tags would make the tagging system useless, since everyone would just spam as many as possible to increase exposure. This way, you have to really consider whether the tags you're using serve your novel. As for requesting new tags, you can try...

    How essential are the tags?

I'd say they're pretty important, since they provide a sneak-peak into what your novel will contain, beyond what you've put in the description. I've seen some good novels use no tags and get next to no readers for it (like, single digits), and I personally use tags to decide whether a story is...

How do you guys deal with not feeling good enough?

First of all, I try to remember that the way I see my work isn't the way the readers are going to see it. I've spent hours working on it, putting it down on paper and then editing every line to fit, so I unknowingly almost know it by heart. Of course it reads boring to me - there's no such thing...

    Sell/Unsell me on Genderbender Stories

If it's done correctly, gender bender is a genre that keeps giving. Lighter levels of GB (like playing VR as another gender) can be used for comedic misunderstandings or more believable double identities, and transformation can be used to explore gender as a theme and/or set up some (tasteful)...
