I can't say anything for sure since I've not read your work, but if you have a problem writing like a report, even in 1st PoV, maybe try roleplaying as the character.

Just copy others. For real, though, I'd say keeping the logic is the most important aspect. Think about it really hard when you make a choice of adding something or giving someone a skill. If you do it recklessly, it will lead to many problems. And you have to absolutely note everything...
