Planning out your story vs winging it chapter-by-chapter

I've heard some people write in total non-sensical orders. Specifically novel authors. They'll plan out what happens when, then write whichever chapter they're in the mood for, basically stitching it together as they go. Personally, I've tried it and can't stand it. I've also tried planning...

Writing What stories do you use as references for your work(s)?

my current stories take inspiration from a wide variety of stories. the story I was writing when I first started was a Vampire/Werewolf novel, where the WOLVES were the evil side. As for the inspiration why I wrote it... I'd just been forced by my (now-ex) girlfriend's parents to go see twilight...

What is your way of recovering from a simple illness?

All of my illnesses have always been either mild annoyances or "sleep for 2 weeks in the hospital with people praying that I don't die". Nothing in between. as such, I usually just rely on OTC meds like lozenges and cough drops or mucinex and I sleep a little more. In the case of the latter type...

    Art Stuffs

once it's uploaded, remember to right click and use the image's specific URL, not the page that shows the image. it should be a pinimg(dot)com URL. as an example: That image uses the URL for one on my recent upload for Two Faces.

When should one have a time skip of a year or two?

time skip when nothing is happening or when day-in-day-out is the same routine. My story DragonBound has a couple year timeskip when Protag is training. I used one chapter to show his abilities pre-skip, his routine during skip, and then picked up post-skip with a chapter to show his new skills...

Furry isekai harem (No smut... yet)

I appreciate the feedback. And I do want to say, most of it is intentional. Xenon is passive because he's ALWAYS been passive. he has to learn to find his voice. One thing I've always hated in isekai is "I spent 30+ years being passive and suddenly I'm a master of my own destiny." At this point...

I'm assuming you mean that it disappears? Can I ask what steps you take? I've noticed it has issues with some image hosting sites versus others. I use pintrest for my in-chapter images and it works great. You just have to remember to use the image URL, not the URL to the page containing the URL...

    Need help on my schedule

For the time of day, you could schedule each upload the night before. The scheduling system for this site is pretty good. And you could post a chapter a day for 5 days, but I'd still recommend 5 chapters at once, then reducing it to your normal planned schedule. I've personally tried daily...

    Need help on my schedule

unless you have a following, it's considered better form to block-post the first few chapters. once those are out, I'd recommend 2-3 chapters per week. Plan for it after work for your target audience. If your aim is to have US residents read it, plan for around 3-8pm in the US. Not sure of where...

what it glossary and what purpose does it have?

If the author chooses, they can use it to keep a separate list of characters, items, locations, etc for readers to quickly reference. It's preferable for longer works that may bring characters back from 100+ chapters ago.

How do people find new stories?

tags tags tags. and just for good measure: TAGS. That's seriously the most common way most people find new stories, outside of the front page, which is mostly luck that it ends up there. That said, I'd recommend building a following and waiting. Patience is king. Add links to it in your forum...

    Astronomy themed

oh, it's nothing against you specifically. I've recently seen an uptick in people posting for feedback in every forum except the designated feedback one. It's just a bit off-putting at times. What I'd recommend though is adding links to your signature then interacting with existing threads or...

Why does it seem that posting feedback threads to the feedback-specific forum has fallen out of favor?

Tutorial: How to Put Image on Your Chapters @ ScribbleHub Main Page

Agreed with @Sleds. I use Pintrest. From what I've found, you can't just link to the pin itself. Right click, "Open link in new tab". Grab the resulting link. Never had any issues with it.

Preferred way to do a part 2

I'd say it depends. if it picks up from where part 1 leaves off, I'd post it to the same novel. If there's a timeskip, a POV change, etc, then make it a sequel novel. Like I did with Lay the Dragon and DragonBound.

Why is there no deaf protagonist tag?

I should reconsider my decision to not post mine. I had 5 full chapters. I gave it up as my reason for writing it vanished. That said, it was still pretty good. She was a half gnome that was deaf due to a magical explosion that permanently damaged all working of the inner ear. She felt...

Why is there no deaf protagonist tag?

I have actually written a deaf protag. It's no different from writing dialogue for a multi-lingual Protag. You could use a different language (If you yourself are multi-lingual), You could do the classic differing dialogue tags (I.e.: "Hey," She said in english before switching to Spanish, "How...

Magic and Logic Why They Can't Coexist(?)

Oh, I didn't mean that creativity was being entirely different and unique. There's a reason the most popular stories are just rehashes of prior stories. People like what they know. Anything TOO different is too risky. such is the penance of a mortal life. We have limited time, so why waste it on...

Magic and Logic Why They Can't Coexist(?)

Some webnovels do magic science well. My favorite is "The Wiseman's Grandson".

Magic and Logic Why They Can't Coexist(?)

Well, it's certainly kicking a hornets nest of people passionate about such things. that said, It is certainly making us think on how to justify it. These sorts of questions are usually what push the boundaries and allow the lines of thought that produce the next big thing. Whether or not anyone...
