I definitely agree that some stories can have big brained MCs vs not that. But I call people idiots for, well, being idiots. I've heard of a type of reader who will vocally complain about a fundamental aspect or theme of a story, and won't read the story even if things are changed just for them...

Some people are just straight up idiots. I try to make aspects of my story clear, but there will always be someone who misses the point and will complain about it out loud. You have to do what you need to for your target audience, because these people won't be happy even if you bend over...

50 shades is anything but mature. But I'd put mature as anything dealing with subject matter a younger reader won't be able to understand or appreciate as well, or with subject matter that's more disturbing or uncomfortable for younger readers.

Badass men doing cute things is the actual cutest thing here. As for badass... Anyoje can be badass, but I feel like they need to earn it. And by that, I just mean have them go through some events that force them to step up and emotionally mature, and then their badassery will be more than earned!
