  • Music recommendation

It is Eid al-Fitr, and I feel like recommending something fitting now that I've been relinquished of my daily mission.

The thing is, however, contemporary Islamic music is kinda terrible. Much like CCM. So I can't in good faith (ha) recommend any of it.

Therefore, here's some Mos Def/Yasiin Bey.

You know it's gonna go hard when he opens with basmallah.
    Daily music recommendation #365!!!!!

Well it's been 1 year of music recommendations. What better way to wrap up this series than perhaps my favorite song of all time.

It has accompanied me through... COVID online learning :blob_shock:

That yearning for genuine human connection just speaks to me.

Every single aspect of the song is tasteful, from Thom's ephemeral vocal performance and evocative chord voicings, to Jonny in the song's climax. Such a perfect track from a perfect band (political SNAFUs aside)

As I've achieved my goal of a full year of music recommendations, I'll just recommend songs whenever I want to instead of every day :blob_aww:
I'm terrified of how my dad can just randomly start conversations with strangers in public

Mine too! And when he starts he and the person he is speaking to will know everything about eachother's families, jobs, politics, financial difficulties and etc this happens especially more in places like trains or cabs

My dad's a professor in the big local college here so he kinda knows everyone or at least how to relate to everyone

I don't really listen to metal, but this song goes insanely hard. Some very iconic guitar playing on here, from the numerous solos (especially the outro) and the bridge part. Also the lyrical content is just haunting and is a good reminder that war is fucking dumb
Why do I always read your name as ShrimpLady?
I love it when rappers make two words rhyme when they're not supposed to. So bold and cheeky

Especially when the rhyme makes sense in context, like Pusha T rhyming "Wi-Fi" with "reach me" on Ace Trumpets by pronouncing the former as "wee-fee", which I guess it's how it's pronounced in French and the album was recorded in Paris

I like it when rappers keep my chocolate bar safe in my pocket.
I can't believe Sean Ono Lennon has an active online presence

What's more he can be incredibly annoying online

Makes it very tempting to make fun of him for being John Lennon's son

But he's also impossible to ragebait

    A marvelous specimen

Never finished this show because I'm a Monogatari loyalist and it felt too reddit, if you could believe that

But I'm a big fan of the OP. Just some nice youth j-rock. Hits all of the right wistful notes, like sunlight through the canopy illuminating the person in front of you in patches as you realize you want to have their babies, or smth

Kinda weird how Your Lie in April's full of over-the-top slapstick comedy while also attempting to be a serious story about abuse and trauma

    Okay man

One of Maroon 5's most pleasant tunes, back when they were still a band and not the Adam Levine slopavaganza

Maybe if the band stuck with this vibe into the 2010s, Adam would've learned how to sext better. Who knows

But yeah, it's just such a nice and breezy song even if the instrumental break is a cheapo version of the similar break in Sir Duke
I bought a "better" brand of canned sardines this time. More sardines, less sugar, less salt.

    It takes like ass
I lowkey don't really mind when anime adaptations differ wildly from the source material. To me, adaptation is just another artform, another creative expression. It should be seen as something on its own, though this isn't to say that an adaptation can't be bad precisely because it strays from the source material :blob_hmm:

It's not uncommon practice in western cinema, but anime fans get in their feelings when it happens to their favorite cartoons. Like the people getting pissy that Bocchi the Rock's adaptation toned down the fanservice. You dumbasses, it's better this way!
