Today April 9 marks the Philippine Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan)

On April 9, 1942, USAFFE forces in Bataan under Gen. Edward P. King surrendered to the Japanese, with 70k US and Filipino soldiers laying down their arms. They would later take part in the tragic "Bataan Death March".
