I like haplogroups, but like all sciences there's a lot of junk to sift through.

Same, though I'm totally not an expert on them, so I wouldn't know what's going on. I assume there isn't enough bullshittery to get to whatever the first post was talking about though :blob_hmm:

On a side note, it's good to know that this weird "We were actually X!" stuff is universal. Makes me feel better about my grandma telling me our ancestors actually "discovered" America :blob_hmm:

We did sail to Australia and trade with some aboriginal people before the Europeans ever arrived though :blob_evil:

Insert spiel about how Skrillex said this was his favorite song but his fans complained that it had no drop.

This shit is incredible though. So ethereal, with just enough intrigue to keep it from getting stale. Something something they were ahead of their time or something.

You can tell I don't really listen to electronic music.
Looking for videos about a certain cultural subject, only to find the comments full of klansmen :sweating_profusely:

Put in the simplest way, it's basically a belief system that emerged in some Melanesian cultures as a result of colonization and contact with more technologically-advanced cultures where believers perform rituals and stuff in the hopes of getting material riches or cargo.

A famous example is a cargo cult that believes an American WW2 soldier named John Frum will bring the people prosperity if they follow him.

I personally see them as an interesting cultural phenomenon that gives insight into early human religion, but I guess some folks make it a race thing :blob_hmm:

that's just materialism not something new.
My theological theory (that I don't really believe in) is that God sacrificed static perfection to allow for change and subsequently the creation of the universe. I like this coupled with Phillipp Mainlander's(?) image of God's suicide but like, not as edgy.

I guess this is just a kind of pandeism :blob_hmm:
The em dash is a mind virus. I feel compelled to replace every comma with an em dash—even where they work just fine.

Not bad—in fact, quite fine—actually, it could be better—oh, who am I kidding—it's miserable

Em dash is like manual breathing for me, once i notice... I feel like there are speed bumps when I read...

    I LOVE using [ ... ] and [ , ] tho.
I should get a haircut. I'm really starting to look like an actual bellend

I've always thought Korean men's haircuts look really cool, but they straight up do not work on most Southeast Asian heads. They just look wrong :blob_hmm:

The thing about this era of Sunny Day Real Estate is that all of their songs sound the same, so you can pick and choose which songs to listen to.

This one's a personal favorite, even though it sounds like the other dozen songs off the Diary album. The vocal performance is just unbelievably raw.

And the thing about these old emo bands is that they usually get tired of the sound after their first couple of albums and start making bullshit. Meanwhile, modern emo bands have trouble letting go of the sound ?‍♂️
Religious history is super interesting, time to watch a bunch of 10 minute videos on the subject :blob_hmm:

There once was a teacher named Onizuka... He was great.

This song is a heavy duty emotional laxative. Crazy nostalgic even though I watched GTO over a decade after its initial run.

    Now I'm older than Onizuka.

    Damn.

The bridge is also in 5/4 for some reason, or 10/4 idk. It's cool though
We all know civilization peaked with mango sticky rice, but many of you are sleeping on mango regular rice.

Just mango (preferably the sweeter kind) on plain white rice. Nothing else.

Not a struggle meal. Just a treat.

    Exchange I saw on Tw*tter:

Guy 1: "Africa didn't even have a written language before colonization."
Guy 2: *Shows evidence that that is clearly untrue*
Guy 3: "Well, Africa only developed writing through contact with the Middle East."

    Which makes me wonder...

Do these guys not know that if you live anywhere other than East Asia, your writing system probably also traces its roots to the Middle East?

@AYM Yep, but Mesoamerican scripts aren't used much these days (?)

@SirContro I'm no historian or linguist, but I think even sub-Saharan Africa had writing. I only know this because of that super old Ethiopian Bible written in Ge'ez :blob_hmm:

:meowsip: The accomplishment was less writing, which was common in one way or another, and more the invention of the alphabet~.

Some sub-Saharan countries had writing. Ethiopia definitely had writing pre colonization. Ancient Zimbabwe and most other sub-Saharan countries did not.

Is it weird that I like this version more than the original? Maybe it's the inclusion of an actual guitar solo. But it's likely Aoyama Yoshino's vocal performance as Bocchi that really gets me. Something about it feels so raw and earnest, like we're tuning into the radio frequencies of her heart... or something.

As a side note, I hope they use To Your Town for season 2. It's a crime that the song hasn't been picked up in the 20 years it's been out.
