In all honesty, I didn't watch the video, and my comment was directed at writing as a process rather than as an art/product.
In terms of the process of writing, it is absolutely true. Some people need to create detailed outlines in order to write. Others do better just sitting with a blank...
Yeah, I use Grammarly for basic spelling/grammar checking, and whenever I've gotten lazy about checking its suggestions, I've been bitten (it especially likes to throw commas where they're not needed or even change the meaning of the sentence).
That seems to be the pattern across publishing sites in general. If you look at stories written before 2021/22, there's a lot more engagement. Now, you're lucky to get a comment or two after dozens of chapters.
I slow-burn my sexual content and am rather stingy with it, often going quite a few chapters between scenes. It hasn't been too much of an issue for me.
That said, I'd highly recommend some sort of explicit scene (even just masturbation) early on if your book is going to include it. Waiting too...
I didn't save my one-month stats, but Monday will mark two months for my debut novel:
Chapters: 71 + 1 Interlude (I finally cleared my backlog today.)
Pages: 812 (223k words total)
Scribble Hub:
Total views (Chapters): 7589
Average views: 105 (252 for chapter 1, dropping off to 148 for chapter...
With the addition of chapter 71, I've completely cleared out my backlog!

I find such errors embarrassing and certainly appreciate it when readers point them out so I can fix them!
Also, it means someone is actually reading the story, which is nice.
Finding readers is a numbers game. If your story doesn’t do well on one site, stop actively publishing there and refer readers to a site it’s doing well on. If someone comes across it and likes it enough, they’ll follow you to the other site.
For myself, my (admittedly niche) story didn’t land...
As others have said, different sites have different audiences.
I tried Royal Road before coming here and got nowhere (granted, my story is rather, uh, niche), but it's doing just fine on Scribble Hub.
