    The cancer can become dormant and the symptoms and effects can disappear and become undetectable but the cancer is still technically there.

    Even in long term remission, there is a possibility that it can come back but many do live the rest of their lives with no more issues from cancer after successful treatment.

    What's important to note is that some cancers can go undetected for years, and it's always important to catch it early for treatments so in this hypothetical a cure is invaluable, specifically for those cases where irreparable damage has already been done to the body.
