I'd show PoV or make emphasis of a character who feels that something is wrong.
For example, my MC is an ex-slave. He reacts negatively to slavery in general. He even wants to dismantle it, even if he knows it's impossible. Of course I have to portray the slavery itself to make that point.

I have introduced three named main casts and one currently side character in my tavern brawl chapter. At the same chapter, there are at least seven named characters. Though, the focus is still at the narrating MC, and the spotlight of the chapter who fought alone against the enraged drunkards.
A pair of sworn siblings got abandoned by their master in an isolated backwater town. They found the master's shoplist that also listed people who owed him and his possible hangouts. There was a puzzle in the last page that more or less hinted they should stay there instead of looking for him.
Ever since I watched Shurato and Magic Knight Rayearth back when I was a kid, I've wanted to write a transforming hero story taking place in medieval fantasy-like world. But I had no idea how to.

It hasn't been popular since I first wrote mine in 2017. It's pretty much a thinly veiled personal diary, after all. So I don't really think about it much.
But I do care if eventually someone will stumble upon it, so I try to make it easier to read, at least.
