We don't need AI Slop illustration [RANT]

Just a simple reader here, enjoying my time on SH.

You can guess where this is going from the title, but I'm getting really tired of AI generated illustrations.

I can understand it for the cover image, although I would prefer that the authors who are able to pay a genuine artist do so.

But I'm seeing a lot of illustrations just added there for fun, usually at the end of chapters, and it is really dissapointing coming from authors, who are a kind of artists.

I also want to add that illustration are not necessary to the story, and reading has always been about imagination.

Putting the ai generated image in a spoiler so those uninterested or annoyed won't have to see it while those who are interested can see it if they click on it might be a solution. Honestly it's always been this way, ai just made it easier now, people used to take and put some anime or some other media gif/img as illustration or refrence.

I think it's more of the illustrations at the end of the chapter that aren't necessary as a) AI isn't always correct b) some readers prefer to have their own imagination c) I can imagine authors not putting the illustrations in a spoiler and big illustrations or multiple can be annoying to scroll though

But the opinions of readers should also matter? I find illustrations as author and artist in written medium if excessively, annoying too. Especially when the illustration doesn't fit and differs from the actual scene. It gets confusing.

Also everyone hacking on OP and crying who will pay the artists, but the point is that in chapter illustrations are not necessary. Author can open a discord for extra tidbits. And be honest, AI slop gets ugly the more you see it. Seeing anime childlike AI slop can really break the immersion. I can't be the only one having other images while reading.

I'm not sure... your comment is universal, your comment is more about subjective preference.

For example, he @Omarfaruq is both the author and the reader. But he liked the illustrations added to the chapters.

Writing and adding illustrations or whatever is a matter of artistic freedom. If writing fiction about a hobby, let the authors create as they please unless you're paying them.
