And I'm talking OLD games.

For me, it's mostly 90's and early 2000s stuff since I'm a 90's kid.
I still have a Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP.

Playing things like Pokemon Sapphire/FireRed/Emerald/Crystal, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Harvest Moon, etc.

I also play old PC games like the original Rollercoaster Tycoon, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology
Lands of Lore, one of my favorites:

This baby. My mom and my favorite arcade shooter game back in the 2000's. Don't ask why my mom is letting her kid play such a violent game with her, but it sure as heck was fun. Can't find it in arcades anymore nowadays because it's so old, so I found a PC-converted version and play that when I'm bored. I love this game. :)

Lords of Magic! Feels a lot like Disciples or RPG-ish Total war. Closest thing nowadays is probably Warhammer:TW modded to be character-heavy. Still kicks ass, there's a mod kicking around that modernizes a lot of it. Warning if anyone decides to play it: a lot of the legitimate versions floating around have accidentally activated the anti-piracy doomstack the devs put in. Make sure you get a bugfix for that or face pain at the hands of elves and butterfly dragons while you still have a dude with an axe and a gnome.

I replayed Halo CE recently. Great game, and it made me realize that modern enemies are unironically worse than old ones. In Halo CE the elites will actually dodge grenades and stuff, and they will patrol around or hide behind things. It's very eye-opening to play an old game and realize that a lot of games nowadays (not all) are super lazy.

I've been on a kick of replaying all my old GBA/GBC games recently. Metroid Fusion, the original Mario and Luigi (still the best in the series(well, that's not completely fair, i haven't played All the others)), Oracle of Ages and Seasons...

also Chrono Trigger, maybe I'll actually finish it one of these days ?

-me staring at the old original nes, snes, n64, ps1, ps2 while the switch and ps4 sit there collecting dust. :blob_melt:

some of my old favorites that I have are the mario3 original square grey cartridge from.... 1990 wtf??? (I have some old stuff.) killer instinct and super metroid on snes. starfox64, mario64, megaman64 on (guess what..) the n64. the original .hack// games, dark cloud2, and disgaea: hour of darkness on ps2.

But my favorite favorite-est favorite game is final fantasy x-2 on ps2.
Something about it is just one of the greatest games of all time in my opinion. i mean all of these games look pretty horrendous on 4k tvs, but.. they have charm, you know? They (stupid game companies) just don't make games (or respect their ips) anymore like they used to..

I dont think i've EVER finished chrono trigger to this day... once I get the time ship, i lose track of everything and just fly off on side quests losing sight of the main quest EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Eventually, I'll be buying myself a PS2, GameCube, and Nintendo 64.
I need these things to be complete.

I need to play Sims busting out, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Spyro, Pokemon Snap, and all the millions of mario games again. :blob_aww:
Also plan on buying those old GBA hamtaro games :blob_melt:

I'm probably outing my age here, but in spite of the graphics, it holds up really well gameplay wise. It has a very satisfying loop, and it's fun to figure out how to play. I've been playing it on and off forever, but it took me, like, twenty years before it clicked (part of that is discovering the manual, lol). The UI actually works pretty well, though it could really use such modern conveniences as tool tips and in game spell descriptions.

Otherwise, it's very open world, and it isn't terribly bothered by sequence breaking, and there's lots of ways to mess about.

Old games were on the line of.

Hard or seek therapy.

Either way, you were in for a hell of a time.

To this day, Valkyrie Profile 2 with its deep system. Is pretty damn hard. As soon as you hit Chapter 3, the gloves are off entirely.

They start forcing you to engage with every mechanic. Soul Crushes will almost certainly take out 30%+ HP.

And when one falls, it messes up your entire team. You have to engage with the Dais if available, what you hold. The terrain, enemy range, etc.

Splitting off your team, but keeping them close enough becomes a strat later down the line. In Chapter 4, the first high level Soul Crush you face. Which will take out about 90%+ HP.

The rooms are small, so you have to know when to face tank a hit/split off, just to give yourself an opportunity.

What made this game even harder, is that levels do not mean much at all. And saving up characters for end game release is another thing for stat boosts. As this will make tackling the post game dungeon manageable.

With also getting the hidden weapons in the game, by leveling certain characters before they leave between Level 40 and 45.
