Almost anything animation related doesn't exist in my country. there's simply no production market for it here.

I don't think cover artists even exist in my country

Well you can always try to ask for a more traditional artist, a comic artist, or a graphic desiger in your country, it would come as a unusual request, but if you have the possibility to pay in your countries currency then they will have no trouble fulfilling your request.
It doesn't need to be someone from Animation/Cover background to be well capable of doing anime art covers as long as they have the art style in their skill set. For most art people having more then one style in their skill set is a must.

I made my cover by going online and finding some license-free artwork, so basically, art that is free to use for whatever you want, and then I tweaked it a bit and slapped some text on it.

Just type license free art into your browser and then hope you can find stuff. It's usually ridiculously old stuff or kinda garbage stock art type stuff that looks like someone threw together in 35 seconds, but you might get lucky.

Have you thought about making a simple cover with just font? have you checked the free resources thread here on the forum?

So... here's the problem:

I am a new author and started writing mostly as a hobby.
But now I feel that my work is good enough for commercialization. So I was thinking of commercializing my work after I publish around 50 chapters.

But the problem is book cover.
My current book cover is made using AI. And even though I've edited it and changed it significantly, at the end of the day it's still AI cover.

That is the main reason that I can't commercialize my work.

So the simple fact remains that, since I can't earn in dollars then I can't spend in dollars either.

So, I can't commission an artist since I don't earn, can't commercialize my work to earn, then what the hell should I do?

And I know a solution for that paradox. Its to be enslaved by the enslavers called Webnovel.

You can create your Webnovel exclusive AI cover that Webnovel can commercialize since they already have rights for that image.

The drawback of Webnovel is that they enslave you for a certain time and you loose both creative rights as well as some human rights.

But I don't wanna loose my freedom to become their slave, I have a job.

What the hell should I do?

Not at all true - there are maybe a dozen audio books on Pocket FM that do NOT have digital covers (those very, very few licensed the covers from the original comic books).
Now, you SHOULD modify the AI output a bit - add in your own title and byline, for example, but an AI generated cover will get you scorn from some writers, but you can wave your pay in their faces and laugh.

You can always composite something with royalty free clip art (a lot of it is available online, as is software to compose images if you don't have any, including Canva), which either costs nothing (but time) or a very small fee to access libraries of it. That's how I did the cover for True Blue (and, when it was here, Digital Cowboy). My other covers have all been modified AI images.

Speed (real artists take days, weeks, even months - AI takes hours at most), convenience (no need to negotiate a contract), or need to conform to specific cover dimensions that is easier using AI than trying to purchase and resize real artwork.

it's not allowed everywhere. you need your own cover to upload your novel on some platforms. they don't accept AI covers. take Tapas for example.

Ah! Tapas... yeah, I was going to post stuff there, but the stories I had were either too adult for the "non-premium" area or ... had partially AI generated covers so I never did. They are the strictest site I've seen on the subject.

Another idea - one that has been done for ages - is to have a single background color, a large, fancy font for the title, a plainer version of the same font for your name or pen name, and MAYBE a small graphic (usually royalty free stuff or stuff cropped from photos with all humans removed). Paperbacks especially follow this (especially in the romance, biography, mystery/suspense, history, and "literature" categories; full graphic images only dominate fantasy, science fiction, and young adult areas, and even there you find some old-school "text only" or "text plus tiny image" stuff).

The issue is that it's arbitrary. Unless the image was clearly not AI generated, or you can prove its genesis, anyone can claim anything about it and ban it - or let it slide, if they so desire. At least that's what I'm seeing.

A fun test might be to see if an actual graphic artist is willing to do an image with odd numbers of fingers, joints bending in the wrong direction, extra glossy bits that probably shouldn't be, and post that to see if they flag it as AI or let it pass...

I mean, if they're earning like 50k a month do you think spending $500 on an original cover is going to eat away their savings or something?
But then again, it's a thing about loving your novel and your characters. I love my novels and I love even more every single character, so I always try to commission original covers because I feel an AI cover would be an insult to them

the core idea of my story was that a man with negative bias towards the world and a girl with a positive bias towards the world reincarnate into a morally grey fantasy world.

the story is divided into three phases.

Childhood phase, teenage/ academy phase, adulthood phase/ conquest phase.

Adrian : Who is he ? - A 25 years old man who was a teacher in a high school on earth, he was reincarnated into a fantasy world mysteriously after going to sleep and waking up. he was reborn in the strongest ancient noble family of the empire.



What does he want ? - He wanted to live a normal life on earth away from the competition of the world. he wants to find a purpose in life after an oh ‘oh shit’ moment. he wants to correct the system of the world and unite all races after another ‘oh shit moment’.



What does he fear ? - he currently fears becoming a fallen genius and the attitude change of the people due to that. he fears getting too close to someone and getting hurt after their attitude change.



What is his flaw ? - he has a negatively biased worldview. he is bad in close and casual conversations and awkward in relationships.



What changes him ? - the female protagonist and his life in the new world changes him.



what is his relationship with the protagonists ? - he is the male protagonist of the story and is engaged to the female protagonist.



What is the ‘oh shit’ moment that defines him? - the moment when he realized that he was only working hard under pressure and his life itself had no purpose. the moment when his belief that different people can’t coexist together broke as he was faced with past as evidence.



Habits : playing with a coin, comparing situations and things in the new world with typical fantasy hero stories.



Ideologies :

1. The essence of the world is competition and both humans and animals are competing for something against each other, a competition where they want to become something, obtain something or achieve something. but there is always more competition after competition and the competition never ends. so life isn’t about how high you climb in this competition but when you are satisfied with life itself, only then can you live a happy life. I am satisfied with what i have in life and have no desire to achieve and more than i currently have, i have no desire for friends, love, more money or higher fame because i am happy with my life even if it’s a modest life and don’t desire anything more. ( this is his mindset before reincarnation )

People are inherently evil, it is the law, rules and regulations that force them to act good. people fear doing evil because they are afraid to be cast aside by society, the rules, regulations and laws are a chain that binds them but despite the presence of these laws and morals there is still so much evil and crime in this world so you can only imagine what the world would be like without the presence of these rules, regulations and the persecution from society.


Trust is the very basis of betrayal and only those you trust can betray you. there is so much betrayal in this world and that all starts when you begin to trust someone. people forgive those that betray them sometimes but that only leads to more betrayals. don’t needlessly trust others if you can help it and if you have no choice but to trust then first consider what you stand to loose in case of betrayal.


People all possess different beliefs and ideologies and the clash of those ideologies is what creates conflict, in this world conflict is as natural as flowing water and the ground beneath our feet. the conflict between races is natural since there is so much difference between them, there was so much conflict on earth on the the basis of religion, caste, gender and much more so it’s only natural that the conflict in this world would be far greater and mor violent since the division is so much clearer and more defined compared to earth. and as those who are at the loosing end of this conflict, the treatment and situation of the other races is natural as well.


Does helping someone who is suffering really have any meaning ? their suffering is their own doing and my momentary help won’t change that , and what about those that couldn’t get my help? isn’t it unfair to them since someone who was suffering just like them receives help while they don’t ? at the end of the day the cause of the suffering is the system of this world and the people who are suffering right now doesn’t matter , my helping them won’t change anything since they will become history anyways, and new people born under the system in the future will suffer again.


There is no one in this world that truly lives for others, those who believe they are living for others are living for the emotional satisfaction they receive from living for others and without that emotional satisfaction they won’t be able to live for others. only a true saint will help others while everyone curses them. in the end people are all the same, it’s what gives them satisfaction happens to be different.




Special skills : he has great observation skills that helps him gain insight into people’s character, their thoughts, and their habits. he can even analyze situations. this is a skill he developed in his past life due to being a teacher and constantly observing students.



Past : as a child he had abilities that were far greater than those his age and due to that he was constantly praised as a genius, people showered him with affection and many his age wanted to be friends with him. as he grew older, he found that his abilities were becoming similar to others and he was becoming average, around that time people started growing disappointed in him and their attitude towards him was becoming different. his friends starting distancing themselves from him and his family and relatives started neglecting him. this made him emotionally damaged with thoughts like ‘if they didn’t have any expectations from me from the me from the beginning then my treatment right now will be far better than it currently is’. and after that he started emotionally distancing himself from others and didn’t let anyone grow too close to him.







Evangeline :

who is she ? - A 16 years old girl who lived all her life in a hospital room due to a rare illness and died due to that illness, she was reincarnated into a fantasy world after her death, in a noble family.



What does she want ?- She wants to become the female lead of the new world (she wants to fulfill her dream of living like a princess with a princelike figure and everyone loving her. )



What does she fear ? - She fears death.



What are her flaws ? - she has a positively biased worldview. she is a bad judge of character. she has no political or negotiation skills.



What changes her ?- her interactions with Adrian and the situations she faces in this new world changes her.



What is her relationship with the protagonists ? - she is the female protagonist of the story and is engaged to the male protagonist.



What is the ‘oh shit’ moment that defines her? - the moment that she realized that there her dream of living like a princess was a groundless fantasy and fulfilling that dream in this world was almost impossible for her. the moment she realized that the world wasn’t as beautiful as she believed and that it was a cruel place.



Habits : she has a habit of playing with her hair, comparing situations and people to the princess fantasy stories she had read



Ideologies :

This world is beautiful and can fulfil anyone’s dreams and desires as long as they have the ability to fulfil those dreams. there are so many different people in this world yet the world has a way to fulfil everyone’s dreams. only the people are unfortunate who don’t have the ability to walk towards their dreams, like her. if only they too had the ability then they would have fulfilled their dreams as well. ( this is her mindset before reincarnation )


People are inherently good, its the circumstances that force them to do evil. when you fall down while walking, most people around you would help you stand up again even if they are a stranger. but the circumstances are not always simple enough for them to show kindness, the solders kill those solders on other side but do they enjoy killing ? no, its their duty and they endlessly justify themselves because they know that the solders on the other side are just like them and so they feel guilty for killing. in the end , if there was only one place to protect then fighting and killing wouldn’t be necessary, those who are killing each other now would become comrades in that situation. such circumstances are everywhere and so is the evil. after all, everyone just wants to live happily.


Trust is the most important thing in this world, its how people live together and become happy. some say that trusting others will result in betrayal but is that thinking correct ? this world as we see it was made by countless people together instead of one person, and in the process those countless people must have trusted each other. if everyone feared betrayal and stopped trusting others then would the world be as we se it now ? them saying that we shouldn’t trust due to the possibility of betrayal is the same as birds saying they won’t fly because they fear falling. wouldn’t the birds then loose their identity as birds ?


Helping those who are suffering is such a beautiful thing, people often have hopes to receive help when they are suffering and your small help can even appear like salvation to them. why wouldn’t you help others when you have the ability to ? while we can’t help everyone shouldn’t we do what we can ?




Special skills - she has the skill of reading people’s eyes and understanding their emotions. she developed this skill by observing those who visited her in the hospital before her reincarnation.



Past : she spent most of her life in a hospital room before reincarnation. she had a rare illness since birth that made her body below her neck except her hands, paralyzed. she spent most of her life watching anime, reading manga and novels. especially the kind where female lead lives like a princess with a cool prince. she often fantasized herself being in the same situation as those female leads and living like a princess.

Concept summary​

World : A fantasy world with many different races aside from humans living in it with a lot of conflict and politics.


It is divided between the alliance, the theocratic nation, the empire, the kingdom and the center area that is home to races that were branded monsters.


slavery is rampant in the empire and there is a lot of subtle political tension among the nobility and the crown but it’s mostly passive.


the alliance is a union of many races and there is political tension among the races due to them competing for more control over the alliance.


the theocratic nation has next to no presence of other races due to their belief in human superiority and the other races being beneath them.


the kingdom has least level of discrimination and oppression of other races due to them not wanting to have the alliance as an active enemy since they are already in a situation that a war can break out between them and the empire at any time.


the central area is a place where races that can’t coexist with other races exist. they can’t show direct aggression to the other nations since the center is surrounded so the races that live in center mostly have conflict among themselves for more resources. the other nations can’t expand into the center because of various reasons piling up together so it’s mostly left alone.


note - trade mostly happens through sea.


the empire covers most of the south, between east and north lies the alliance, the land between west and north is divided between the theocratic nation and the kingdom with the kingdom being between the empire and the theocratic nation. there is an uninhabitable zone between the theocratic nation and the alliance that is extremely cold so they don’t directly share borders.


the power dynamics of the nations looks like this in descending order : empire - alliance - kingdom - theocracy. with theocracy being the weakest and the empire being the strongest.


Reincarnation setup : A 25 year old man goes to sleep after finishing a normal day and wakes up to find himself reincarnated in a noble family in a fantasy world. A 16 years old girl spends most of her life in hospital due to an illness that paralyzed her body below her neck except for her hands, she dies due to the same illness and is reincarnated into the same fantasy world. These two people have completely opposite worldviews, with the man having a negative bias towards society and the world and the girl having positive bias towards society and the world. they are later engaged and come to interact with each other due to the engagement, thus their journey begins.


The central conflict : There is conflict everywhere in this world, conflict within the empire, conflict between humans and other races, conflict between the empire and the kingdom.


the humans grew to become the majority due to god’s support while the other race’s didn’t get god’s support. the humans began to treat other races with extreme discrimination and started oppressing and enslaving them while the church developed the belief that human race is a race chosen by god and thus superior to other races while the empire found the other races a convenient source of free labor as slaves. the other races were forced to unite due to human oppression and thus created the alliance. the races that couldn’t coexist with others were driven into center and were branded as monsters, they are hated by both humans and other races. the humans don’t wipe out other races because god forbids the complete annihilation of a race.


the conflict web looks something like this : alliance - towards empire ( most aggressive ), toward the theocracy, towards the center, towards the kingdom ( least aggressive )


empire - wants to conquer the kingdom, wants to conquer more land of the alliance and get more slaves, wants to push back the influence of the theocracy but can’t due to fear of retaliation from god.


theocracy- wants to expand into other lands but doesn’t have any justification to do so, wants to expand the influence of the church in the kingdom and the empire. heavily discriminates against other races and don’t even want them inside the theocracy.


the kingdom- doesn’t want to be conquered by the empire, shows minimal aggression towards other races and the theocracy to not create new active enemies.


center area - it’s outside the conflict chain but if the races in the center show aggression towards any of the kingdoms then they are oppressed from all sides since they are surrounded. the center contains races that can’t coexist with other races due to their traits, these races were driven into the center due to that reason. their traits make it hard to enslave them in the long run so they are mostly left alone in the center and killed on sight if encountered on individual basis.


this is the core conflict that will be resolved by the protagonists.


Tone : the tone of the novel shifts between light and heavy with overall tone of the novel being somewhat heavy.



There are a lot of things not mentioned here but this is the basic notes that I've made.

the resolution of central conflict should only start in the conquest phase of my story.

I think the premise of my story in the form of a question would be: What is the correct way to live your life? Chasing after a dream that you might never be able to fulfil or becoming satisfied with the life that you already have and living without any purpose?
