"AI Syntax" puts me off from reading further. Is it just me?

Yeah. If you need to check some school paper or a business/academic paper then use it because that is what it is good at but for fiction, I don't personally recommend.
Nope.

I have been using it for almost 3 years now. It's a misconception that it's only good for those:

If I see these AI-sounding phrases, and the story's flow just screams AI, it just makes me not want to read anymore and want to leave a low rating. Is it just me? Am I being petty on the AI hate train?
I never used em-dashes before my editor at the New York Publishing House for my PNR encouraged me, nay actually constantly put them in my work. So I've been using them, hopefully not nilly-willy (and struggling to readjust from having to do American spelling).

Just for lols my husband put my earlier novels (circa 2009) through AI detection software and my books came back as 90% AI generated. How we laughed and laughed. (After I had an existential crisis...Am I—A.I.?!)

Quietly going off to edit my work and reduce my em-dash and ellipsis addiction. :sweating_profusely:

I often find the results of "AI detection softwares" to be bogus (anecdotally, as well as testing it myself). Simply writing with correct grammar and punctuation causes most anything to be flagged as AI written. It's like an infinite loop of AI trying to write like a human, other AIs trying to detect such AI generated prose, and surprise, surprise, actual humans getting caught in the crossfire because AI is based on people. :blob_facepalm:

I have noticed that AI is really bad at punctuation. I think a lot of authors, and thus the training data AI uses, have various writing tics about how they use certain punctuations and such. But AI can't apply any of it consistently, swapping randomly between various styles. From "okay" to "ok," swapping from doctor Name to DrName, and then sudden excessive use of "~", "!", "...", "!!!", ";" or even the unhinged mixed punctuation "~!.." which would never be used by a sober human.
I've noticed that AI is bad at basically everything. I have not once had it offer me a phrasing I like. It's such chaff I still don't understand how people can let it write for them
I still use em-dashes to interrupt dialogues
I used em-dashes before AI—and I will continue to use them.
