I used to see several writers working together to write a series. Heck, even I was part of one of them, but it got cancelled before the character I created could appear. Anyone in the mood to do the same? The idea I have is your typical "A group of adventurers on their way to fight the Demon Lord (or some other Big Bad)". One author will be writing from that Big Bad's POV, while everyone else will create an adventurer of their own. Of course, this is just my suggestion, and we could do another scenario.

I’d be interested in this, but if I was going to write the opposition, I would need to lean in on some ground rules. A lot of authors can write some truly deplorable things, which could cause a trigger with others. This will be what the heroes react to. Like it or not, as Dark Helmet said in Spaceballs, “Good is dumb.” The forces of good are purely reactionary.

Anyhow, ground rules. With my writings, and when I run tabletop games, I make it clear that I don’t pull any punches, that the heroes are out to stop some shit. However, I also believe that the darker the shadows, the brightest the heroes can shine. (Take that how you will.) Understand, though, that time is a luxury for me, and deadlines would also need to be set if something like this is to be pursued. Deadlines also help to develop focus, so instead of doing any work on my own, I would be working on the group’s project.

Whoever it is that is writing, the rest of their collaborators need to establish a hard deadline for reconvening. That way, if the story is passed around round-robin, by maintaining the deadline, you can keep the writing moving.

Why did it get cancelled ?
Beats me, I joined in the party late because a member of theirs left. And then, everyone just stopped posting at the Discord.

Fair enough with the ground rules, and I'm glad that someone who has experience in similar things is on board.

Challenge accepted. *knuckle crack :devilish:

Anyway,
I don't trust myself to be in a group because I'm me,

-but As @RivCA said: schedules are a huge must.
I would start off by checking your own schedule @Blackout , to see what days you would be available, (seeing if your days match up with anyone else's on SH.) and then adding more information to the post that will shorten the list of people that are browsing by. Just for example: You wouldn't want someone coming by saying they're free every monday, when that's your most busiest day of every week. you know? then ask yourself what you're really looking for or expecting from the collab.

will it be a here (on SH), Or strictly a discord thing?
will it be written out completely then posted, or posted weekly, biweekly, monthly? or posted once the quota of words or pages are filled?
who will be posting it? will there be a shared SH account everyone in the group has the password to? (incase someone drops out and decides they dont want to be the one writing it anymore. or maybe theres a fight between members)
who gets credit for what?
how many people are you looking for? or will be allowed up to? is there an age range?
what kind of genre are you leaning toward? are there any themes you want to stay away from?
are there limitations to ideas?
will there be rules against using the shared universe created together and using it in individuals stories? like spinoffs?
will this just be a one time thing? or will there be multiple books or series if its popular enough?

I think group efforts need a lead. Are you willing to take that lead, and make sure everyone is doing their part or showing up? can people be kicked out? and if so, will their ideas still be allowed to be used, or if they say no, and you're willing to do them that favor, will you be able to just drop that portion even if it is integral to the story, or ignore them?

I don't want to dishearten the idea. I've always wanted to do a writing collab, but like i said, i just don't trust myself enough to do it. You on the other hand were willing to ask, and have experience in it. I just wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt (including yourself, again) by the idea if/when it becomes reality, so I'm throwing you my thought process of a few things you should probably consider beforehand.

Overall, If/when it comes to fruition, I hope its a fun and exciting experience for everyone involved! I wish you luck!

Ooooo I love collabs! Makes for great team work, efficiency, a learning experience, and it helps advertise each others name and work!

I did this one collab before with a dear friend/writer years back. Unfortunately the project remains incomplete :( unless I take on the mantle alone that is. A darn shame too, it was pretty good.

What kind of collab/story were you interested in? I have ideas, but I need details for specifications. For example, what genre were you looking for?

Fantasy is my cup of tea, for what it’s worth. Feel free to include me if you can.

I would guess using Discord, or another active chat, to get the ball rolling. Step One, get everyone on the same page.

Is this roleplay writing?
Because the last time I tried joining one of these, everyone ganged up on me...Folks were fighting over who would be with my character, and what we'd do, etc. If we can prevent little entanglements like that, I'm game. ?

I'm a little hesitant to throw in with something like this with so little info. I've tried joining a couple things like this on SH before, but it always fell through.

Having some ground rules would be nice, like Leilani's no sexual harassment of each other's characters, or no killing each other's characters off for fun or 'plot'. It might be best to fully outline the story before even bothering to recruit writers.

Maybe if I played a different character altogether. I can write any gender, really.

Good point there. My bad. This is the first time I host something like this, so I'm not really sure about the procedures.
Hey there
