I had no idea what kind of trainwreck I was walking into it when I started, but I kept going...and going...cause the story was actually great for a MHA knock off...but omg that power...no one should have that power.
Yeesh, the fact its MHA fanfic is viscerally upsetting.

"I guess the question I really want to ask is, why do people write originals like that on WN? It is not only dsgusting, but also boring as hell."
He asked, I just shared my opinion. So, don't see the point of this meme.

not a fanfic of MHA, but an superhero academy with the same vibe... world has villans heros etc...

oddly funny im watching MHA right now instead of writing my next chapter
Same, stopped in the middle of a sex scene to play Salt and Sacrifice, such is the life.

I think his point was less that harem and smut is bad (it isn't), more that the current trend of non-con/rape/slave harems is pretty reprehensible.

The point is, why people write MCs with absurdly overpowered, same cheat power that is system, and turn them into rapists? You can write as many harem smut novels as you want and at the same time not turn MC into a disgusting and deplorable rapist. You know? You can make a cool chad who respects women and fucks them at the same time.

Saying anything is disgusting considering all of the weird shit people pretend is normal and attempt to convince others is okay and normal.....nothing really surprises or disgusts me too much anymore.
Shoo-shoo! This place is for me to whine about things I dislike, not a place for good faith conversation! Go away! ??

To be honest man, it's why I started writing. Love smut, like harems, hated that the MC was always a POS and the girls, even well-written ones with personality, just sort of fell into their laps. Enthusiatic consent is just so much hotter, especially in character focused fiction.
You and me? We're from the same crowd, cut from the same cloth x)

Before I go, I still have some stuff to do here. Might as well make a couple more threads.

Web novels in general tend to devolve into trope filled, cookie cutter products. But I want to ask about specific genre. What's going on with the whole harem genre? Yes, I know I can find good works now, no shit, Sherlock. It doesn't contradict the fact the amount of carbon copy system-filled slop has increased. It's absurd that an already bad genre of harem cultivation became even worse with the system bullshit. Before MCs had different cheats, like a secret manual, a teacher, artifact, now it is just slop system in every case. Moreover, we thought there is no way they can fall even further, the quality can't go down. Yet they managed to do it. What the hell happened?

Fine, you are going to say systems are just a preference, I'm a hater(I am, fuck you). WHY THE HELL ARE THEY ALL FREAKING RAPISTS SYSTEMS? What the hell happened? A year or so passed, I open a random site to look for harem novels, I see a bunch of shit like "The Corruption Dragon God: Lust System" or "Pervert In Stone Age: Breaking Cavewomen with Modern Kinks". What the hell happened to wholesome harem romance stories? Or at least what happened to MC being cool and wooing women with his skill and personality, and plot armor? Why do people write this lust system shit?

I guess the question I really want to ask is, why do people write originals like that on WN? It is not only dsgusting, but also boring as hell.
Money, what else? Anyway, at the base Harem genre is not wholesome in the contemporary world (though Kanojo Kanojo and Nesikoi are wholesome), so I guess it's a matter of projection. I myself writes dubious harems in my original novel so I can't really defend

They always find a way to dissapoint and subvert your expectations. I won't be surprised if some horny kid click on this garabge expecting rapey smut, yet MC literally turns women into a plastic...
What is the point of that power? You can literally do the same thing if you spend some money. It doesn't make sense...

I've never seen the appeal of harems. I love putting romances in my stories. I like it so much that I've had to ask myself multiple times if some of my books are actually romance stories with some action and adventure instead of action and adventure stories with some romance. I'm not subtle about it, either. If you can't tell which characters I'm shipping the minute they're in the same room together, you must be legally blind.

But the moment the main character gets into a relationship with more than one person at a time, all the magic is suddenly gone. Two characters having strong feelings for each other feels like a Sword in the Stone moment for both of them. Adding in even more love interests makes it go from being a pair of needles finding each other in a haystack, to a fat guy loading up his plate at a Golden Corral.

I'm allowed to say that because I was that fat guy at Golden Corral yesterday, btw.

Anyway, it makes the guy look like a glutton who doesn't know when or how to stop, and the women look cheap since they're apparently being mass produced and you can just pick out as many as you can fit on your plate.

I didn't like litrpgs until I started reading litrpgs, and thought maybe that was true of harem stories too. So I listened to the audiobook of Dungeon Diving 101, but all it did was cement the opinions I already had.

I tend to avoid the harem + smut genres (especially if the story content is coupled with absurd systems). But I know... I can't stop them from writing the novels they want to write (whether just for fun or to satisfy the market). So, finally I decided to close myself off from novels with 18+ (extreme) genres.

I just realized SH has a feature to filter novels based on preferences so that novels displayed in the latest updates will only show novels that match member preferences. So starting today... and henceforth, I will be blocklisting those genres.

Hmm? What about those who write NTR Herams? :blob_popcorn:
Those are clearly transcendent beings. We should give them all the money and women they want. :blob_sir:

I write harem stories. And I'm fine to admit there's a sprinkle of self-fulfillment in there, mixed with experience and, of course, story. A few students of mine read my works, so I avoid writing in explicit content.

And no, I'm also disgusted with rape-y characters because, for those who know me here for long, I fought against one irl before. And I despise 'system' simply for the fact characters in a story like that don't feel remotely human.

@Paul__Michaels This one should get all the money and women he wants as well since he is the legend. The last legend and king of SHF and Phillipines. But knowing him he will reject women anyway, as for money he will force you to accept his cool art in return.

Allow me to answer it in behalf of the harem author that still need to get himself together to continue writing harem: LitRPG slop seeping into R18/Adult space (as you already said), and obviously some teenager horniness phase that after reading some pornhwa with systems actively pushing (or at least encouraging) the protagonist to commit sex machine gun. Also, as much as you hate it, I also didn't like to gamify sex as well, like it makes the act almost like a cheap chore rather than an utterly special moment.

All in all, I share the same sentiment with you, but at the same time, I know where that come from.
