Before I go, I still have some stuff to do here. Might as well make a couple more threads.

Web novels in general tend to devolve into trope filled, cookie cutter products. But I want to ask about specific genre. What's going on with the whole harem genre? Yes, I know I can find good works now, no shit, Sherlock. It doesn't contradict the fact the amount of carbon copy system-filled slop has increased. It's absurd that an already bad genre of harem cultivation became even worse with the system bullshit. Before MCs had different cheats, like a secret manual, a teacher, artifact, now it is just slop system in every case. Moreover, we thought there is no way they can fall even further, the quality can't go down. Yet they managed to do it. What the hell happened?

Fine, you are going to say systems are just a preference, I'm a hater(I am, fuck you). WHY THE HELL ARE THEY ALL FREAKING RAPISTS SYSTEMS? What the hell happened? A year or so passed, I open a random site to look for harem novels, I see a bunch of shit like "The Corruption Dragon God: Lust System" or "Pervert In Stone Age: Breaking Cavewomen with Modern Kinks". What the hell happened to wholesome harem romance stories? Or at least what happened to MC being cool and wooing women with his skill and personality, and plot armor? Why do people write this lust system shit?

I guess the question I really want to ask is, why do people write originals like that on WN? It is not only dsgusting, but also boring as hell.

Were you asking readers or authours?

As for why these lust systems...weird wish fulfillment? Wanting to write smut without having to bother with something like story development? Deep seated hatred of modern western women who chose the bear and do nothing but trash on men who do not meet the 6/6/6 criteria IRL?

Fucked if I know, I usually drop those pretty quick, though one of my FF's kinda went that way...seen way worse though.

They never existed.

Were you asking readers or authours?
Now that you ask this, probably both and I posted my thread in a wrong subforum.

Honestly, I think this was always the case. Or I never really read anything normal, as every romance in these types of stories was always shallow and rapey from the get-go, with having the characters fuck because of an aphrodisiac or something.

So I don't think anything changed. It's still as bad as it was before.

I dont know how before is being defined here.

I have read plenty of novels that have (or end up with) a harem (or harem like anyways), even back in the 90s. Some were quite degenerate even back then.

Maybe as you keep searching for something new, you end up finding more of these 'hidden gems'* by amateur authours.

Hell, I found one on SH that out of the first 9 chapters, 7 were 100% H scenes with a girl he just met in a cave (a succubus but still), and the other was with the Goddess who sent him to that world.

* - no hidden gems were actually found.

In the 90s, the MCs were impotent and couldn't get through holding hands without nosebleeds.

In the 2000s, they had cardboard cutout wives who were only interesting until joining the harem, then they were forgotten about as a new target appeared.

In the 2010s, we began introducing hardcore smut, but keeping the 2000s style 1-dimension-whamen tropes.

In the 2020s, we upped the kink because now everything must be balls-to-the-walls, futa cumbath, I birthed my own mother through a system to become my grandpa, because normal relationships and simple sex are not enough.

In the 2030s, we will probably get the Gomorrah treatment.

To be honest man, it's why I started writing. Love smut, like harems, hated that the MC was always a POS and the girls, even well-written ones with personality, just sort of fell into their laps. Enthusiatic consent is just so much hotter, especially in character focused fiction.

How it feels to work real hard and write a lot and do research and pour your thoughts and emotions and all that junk into your work and a borderline SA case in the making of a story gets 50x times the views.

I’m joking, please don’t come for me. But seriously, OP is right lmao, some of the stuff out there is horrifying. At least the old-school harem stories were just about some cool, overpowered guy charming everyone, not whatever this new hypnotize-and-enslave trend is. Or like forcing yourself on people or sleeping women. Was quite the shock coming back into the writing scene.

I mean, can't we have a cool MC instead of rapist? It's not one or the other type of deal. If you don't like a doormat, you can still make a guy who respects women instead of seeing them as a masturbator and at the same time works to get their attention.
I hate harem
Then why the fuck did you click on the thread? Are you retarded?

Nah, you are right on all fronts. Really, the worst part isn't even fetishes. It's the fact you can barely call those novels a story. It's extremely fetishistic collection of tropes stitched together. There is no narration, no plot, no characters, nothing. You know how there are assets people use for a game in various engines? It's like those authors put the ones they like together and call it a game. Brother, it's not a game. Same for stories. If you slap a system and a bunch of fetishes you like to a google doc it won't become a story.

I am glad I'm not the only one who sees that previously we had better stories.

Tell you what, write two books, post a couple of chapters: 1 non-harem and 1 harem and smut. See which one gets more readers. Most authors use sites to earn something. Harem stories give authors enough to go by. While a good non-harem story takes forever to get popular and readers, thus most don't make anything out of it for months and end up giving up. You already know the number of abandoned novels. Well, unless you are pro at LitRPG novels and posting on RR. At the end of the day, most casual writers just want to go with what the majority likes to read. And if you hit writers block, just drop a couple of smut chapters. It's easy to write that lol. [PS: Not saying there aren't any good non-harem books. But it takes time and patience and doesn't guarantee success. Speaking from experience. Oh, and this ac is just for my ff, so don't come at me saying you only write ff.]

Totally agree, turning women into one use sex toys is both shit writing and rough to see.

Lol, holy shit. That said, while, ew, if you click on that one I imagine you're getting exactly what you're looking for.

I had no idea what kind of trainwreck I was walking into it when I started, but I kept going...and going...cause the story was actually great for a MHA knock off...but omg that power...no one should have that power.

They always find a way to dissapoint and subvert your expectations. I won't be surprised if some horny kid click on this garabge expecting rapey smut, yet MC literally turns women into a plastic...
