This is a rant. Nothing more, nothing less.
---
Don't know how many of you saw that thread, but today someone posted their story asking for feedback, and then when called out for it being AI-generated, they denied it and argued.
I came to the thread late, so I was quite curious about the story itself, but turns out he had already deleted.
To sate my curiosity a little, I checked their profile, and lo and behold, I saw the words "Join my Patreon for faster updates, early access, and exclusive content" and the reason why their story was AI-generated slop became a no-brainer.
Yeah. It was easy money.
Because, why in the world would you be advertising a Patreon so early?!
Without an established reader base, steady and trustworthy update schedule, or even at least, a minimum of 30-50 chapters already posted.
This was basically and unspoken confession that "Yeah, I wanted to make quick bucks, and I didn't want to work for it."
To be fair, even for the story I'm working on, I have this vague expectation within that at some point in time, I'd probably be earning a little from it, and there's nothing wrong with that.
But when you make profit the sole motivation for your work, how will you be able to resist the urge to cut-corners, take shortcuts, shove AI slop down the reader's throat and start waiting for the money to flow.
You can write to earn, but don't let it be the Alpha and Omega of your story.
Sheesh, have some dignity too. I'm sure you were thinking, "Oooh, the readers are soooo going to fall in love with this story that I totally wrote, and when they're done with the measly 3-5 available chapters that has barely even said anything about the story, they'll totally slap my face with some cool cash to access the paywall and gobble up the rest of the story like the good cash cows they are."
---
Phew. That's all.
Again. This is just a rant. Have a nice day.
---
Yeah, and I posted this in the Story feedback section just so they could see this, in case they came back to check their thread.
"You, yes you, I'm talking to you. Do better next time. Just write. And maybe the readers will even love your flawed writing."
