Every time I see “check their hard drives the author that uses (insert tropes) are actually (insert accusation)”, I suspect the accuser instead.

As long as actual human beings aren’t involved in any way, shape, or form, no stories can be equated to real life horrific crimes.

The most well-known example is Mushoku Tensei. The author is a pedophile, and he even had to edit a part of the story because the publisher complained.
I do not believe it is appropriate to draw conclusions about the author based on some of their characters. Here's a thought: some authors write about child abuse because they were abused as children. Maybe some of the kids in Mushoku Tensei are problematically sexualized because the author was themself as a child?

The most graphic rape scene I have read happens to be in a fantasy book called DoOon Mode. The protagonist in this story confronts a kind of mindflayer that had been chasing her for the entire 4 book series. The mind slurper forces her to relive the rape she endured at 9, and simply reading the scene was a harrowing experience. This 2 page or so section was actually contributed by a woman who herself was raped at a very young age. However, speculations about the author are neither to the benefit of my own arguments about the original topic here nor of any other such arguments present.

Now about the character Rudi, I always thought he was kind of sus. But to be honest I expected bestiality not pedophilia. There are several scenes where beastkin are freaking out because Rudi smells horny while he is touching Fenrir's ears and they think he is defiling Fenrir (who they kinda worship).

In contrast, I don't quite remember him doing anything explicitly sexual with or while under the age of consent. The first actual sex scene with Rudi I think was shortly after he left the demon continent, a consenting encounter with the sword wielder girl, after which they went separate ways on their respective training journeys. Certainly they were young, maybe 16 at that point? Questionable but not a crime. Even in real life according to the court systems of my country of residence, that is an age where teenagers are capable of giving consent to each other (but not to someone more than 4 years older). Certainly within bounds that I would consider reasonable for a book labeled for mature audiences.
An example would be fanfictions about real people
Like the National Enquirer? Gossip magazines have been a thing for an extremely long time. Nobody takes them seriously and few people consider them problematic.
Being a pedophile is a criminal act.
Being a pedophile is not a criminal act in my country of residence. Crimes require actions where I live, so stalking, touching, verbal harassments, and taking pictures can be crimes, as can possessing underage porn (on your computer, phone, or as physical copies). But only being inappropriately attracted to kids (a pedophile) is not a crime itself.

Ah, cool. Thanks for the correction... But how do we know when someone is a pedophile?

At some point I was going to do a troll post asking about checking the hard drives of authors that write about sorcerers and witchcraft.

In the web novel community, the belief that everything is fine because it's fiction is so deeply established that I fear potential heresy to humanity is being raised.

Yeah, and I know that almost anything written in fiction could be viewed as such, but some things are just more uncomfortable than others.

The most well-known example is Harry Potter. The author is a witch, and she even had to edit a part of the story because the publisher complained.

What is your opinion? Where do you draw the line? Do you think that, in the end, fiction is just fiction? Or should sorcerers and witches be burn at the stake, or whatever is the appropriate way of dealing with these things in your culture?

Am I being hyperbolic? Yeah. But I'm giggling at myself.

Anyways, it is a silly idea and I'll leave it on here. :blob_melt:
