Yep. There's also the green-tea bitch sister/adopted sister/or designated heroine getting handsome two-timing baster fiance. Like, seriously? Whenever I see that the MC's got a sister (step sister or younger sister), I know that it's gonna turn out that way. And somewhat related to this is the trope where babies get switched, so that the MC has to prove she's part of the family when they already have their designated daughter already, and I just don't get the fact that the MC has to go back to that family. Like, why? Is there a law in South Korea or China that stipulates that the MC has to go back to her birth family even when she already has another adopted family? Like, I just don't get it. Maybe it's just for plot reasons, I guess.
You read my mind, sometimes i too wonder if there is a law in korea for this behavior.
This has to do with old, perveading ideals and it's virtually everywhere, and I really don't like it. Wen I was younger and hadn't discovered online reading resources yet, I had been reading quite a lot of romance aimed at women because they had female protagonists, but I was frequently turned off by the male lead, and even more by fl's behavior in regards to the ml, and very nearly dropped multiple stories because of that.

One of the main reasons why I enjoy GL is that those relationships are free of a huge amount of baggage, tropes, and expectations that are present in straight romance. They have their own, of course, but far wider and less restrictive.
I been bored lately so i started again on romance only to be reminded why i stopped reading them in first place, now they are worse when you include modern drama like forced marriage, contract marriage and what not, and that's why i enjoy Gl too because i don't have to deal with shits like those of shoujo/seinen romances.
Well, this is one of the reasons I stopped reading romance Manhaw because the first time is ok but every single one of them is like this. What the fuck... but when that says more about the audience that reads this kind of story, some are tragic for sure. Still, the majority is more about the change and that is what catches the people... they want to see the ML change and be good to the FL while being a complete idiot to everyone.

Yeah, is like Isekai... now is more about the people who read it than the people who write about it, is just interesting. Is about women wanting this fantasy of a guy who is a completely insane dude who could kill her at any point but doesn't because he loves her, well, is a fantasy. Hahaha, the same thing going to another world and having a harem of women. hahaha
I wonder too, imagine having a fantasy of a red flag guy insane, possessive, manipulative stalker as your partner, yeah that's is called mental illness.

I genuinely don't know why people especially ladies are addicted to toxic males leads in manhwa,i have read a share of romance mahwa and i feel disgusted by how authors portray the leads either the ml or fl, don't get me started on fl who are always foolish, naive and damsels in distress lol,and vola the ml with rich family, perfect figure and good at everything falls in love with those fl.... atleast authors should include some genuine realistic scenarios in this kind of manhwas.
You should read the villainess genre of manhwa it's essentially an fl who expresses the same sentiment and breaks stereotypes like these

That’s pretty much why I like GL as well, or anything not straight to be fair. It is not the type of relationship, but the tropes to be more precise.

I am fine with any, it is just that. When I see a straight relationship, I won’t expect much from it, that’s all. ?
Don't remind those with more than 1k i always drop them, who reads them you even forget everything.
There are people who read them, my brother for one. ?

I think there is a point when something is too long.
Don’t forget the,

It's also in books. Female authors tend to write male love interests with quirks that they try to hide behind bad qualities. I get that those characters are likeable but they are all the same. They're all tall, wealthy, perfect, ext. I'd love to read a story where the male love interest is a poor, balding and broke man but his personality makes the readers love him.

The fact that Alot of GL doesn't have those huge amounts of baggage the reason I don't read them in the first place, is completely fake, more like someone never had a relationship is writing about what a relationship is supposed to be, is the other extreme, no balance what so ever, maybe one day will mature.

I think you cooked something there... he could even have a glow up, but it wouldn't change much, just like in real life.

The reason for this problem is the dweebs who make the manhwa don't know anything about relationships as they have never had one.

I can recommend "Swim Class for a Mermaid" if you are looking for a fantasy romance manwha with an actual healthy relationship.

Ya know, I am reminded of Disgaea 5. Though, it was a reverse situation. To give a general run down.

Killia was someone born in a lawless world, all he knew how to do was survive. His life itself was toxic. However, there would come a day. When he is taken in by someone who defeated him.

His goal at the time was to defeat the person, but he’d come to know a girl, Lieze. Who slowly did brought out the better him. He lived a more simple life, where it was some of his best memories.

What ended it, was that he accidentally harmed Lieze’s father, giving them a battle scar. Unable to face Lieze, he’d flee where she goes after him.

Her brother who thought Killia kidnapped her, they’d get into a fight. Which Lieze tries to stop them, and ends up getting killed.

The story revolves around Killia trying to bring meaning to Lieze’s death, his goal being to kill her brother.

Anyway, what does this have to do with the topic? There is a character Seraphina who is a toxic, manipulative narcissist in the worst kind. Naturally, she has her eye on Killia who managed to withstand her ability to charm others.

This was a clever thing, as it showed that Killia was faithful to Lieze despite her being gone at this point.

While Seraphina gets better, she is still toxic. Everything Killia did was guided by his memories with Lieze, the life she helped him integrate into. His regrets for what happened. Lieze is the reason why he opened up, and managed to steadily heal, how he made his friends.

To cut things a bit short, Lieze does come back in the end. Since her brother was trying to bring her back, while also fueled by his hatred for Killia. Anyway, the game ends with Killia and Lieze going back to home, continuing where they left off.

Lieze was someone who acted like a counter to who he was, she brought out the better in him.

What some fans wanted, was for Killia to be in a toxic relationship with Seraphina, rather than a healthy one. Ignoring that Killia is how he is, because of Lieze.
