I genuinely don't know why people especially ladies are addicted to toxic males leads in manhwa,i have read a share of romance mahwa and i feel disgusted by how authors portray the leads either the ml or fl, don't get me started on fl who are always foolish, naive and damsels in distress lol,and vola the ml with rich family, perfect figure and good at everything falls in love with those fl.... atleast authors should include some genuine realistic scenarios in this kind of manhwas.

I don’t think that’s a problem exclusive to manhwas, it is a problem in the Romance genre itself and tends to spill over really. I don’t get it myself, never liked it.

All the Romances I have liked, have been healthy relationships. They got their issues, but the issues have such a pull that it makes you want to see how things go.

Another this i forgot is the toxic parents route of fl,author will make you hate the parents with passion because of what they been doing but at the end they are forgiven like something never happened, this always pisses me off.

Ah yeah, that trope. ?

Yeah, that gets under my skin as well. At that point, it isn’t sensible. It wouldn’t be unusual for toxic parents to be cutoff from their child’s life.

At times, I question if this is the Romance genre or not. :blob_blank:

Authors always use the random cliche where the fl gets pregnant and that brings the family together lol,the amount of headache i get for this is intense :blob_no:.

I think it is like monkey see monkey do. Maybe at some point, this trope was acceptable. Given what people saw, they write it because that’s what they know, or that’s what is popular.

And given this cycle, the trend continues on and on.

There is this explanation, and then there is a further one. I do remember doing some research into why people gravitate towards this.

It boils down to them being able to live a fantasy without the risk of the fantasy. Even then, it makes no sense. Since well, if you’re gonna live a fantasy. Wouldn’t it be better to live the ideal one?

My mind jumps through so many hoops, but the bottom line is. A weird kind of escapism.

cultivation handles romance the best.

Nothing can beat toxicity if you take the virginity of a cold jade beauty, when you get enveloped in a pink mist of an aphrodisiac bomb gone wrong and mate like rabbits, just to come to your senses the next day and be locked in a forced marriage because of premarital sex and then be chased by the jade beauty's clan for your sins.

?And those cold beauty's are always a 1000yrs old charming and your only option as a weak low rank cultivator is to agree with the threats or being turned into a yang sex slave because most of them beauties have the ying meridian lol.

This was an actual experience reading a straight romance manhwa:

1. FL has a toxic and controlling partner who decides her life for her.
2. Male lead appears and solves all her problems from the shadows, without her needing to lift a finger.
3. She is now with another man who decides her life for her, but isn't outwardly evil, just weirdly stalkerish.

You just reminded, why is it so normal for stalking in romance mahwas, either the ml or some random creep dude are always 100 stalkers.

I just wanna beat some authors to a pulp.

In short, the situation went from -10 to a - 9. ?

Actually, this has been the trend for years. You can dive back to the 2000’s and find this stuff.

It's actually much worse if you know someone like this in real life. ?
I could never.

This!
Specially in CN novels, like can you not remind me of their existence for at least one arc? ( Oh wait. CN Romance novels don't usually do story arcs)
The Toxic family always buzzed around every 10 chapters repeating the same "you unfilial child" lines.

It's rare to actually see an MC (either ML or FL - they always try to make it seem like women are more emotional so they still support their toxic family ?) that would cut ties with their toxic family in CN novels.
If they're no longer relevant to the story, can't the author just quietly transfer them to the Bahamas until the story ends?

But I guess this is just another way of getting a reaction out of the readers, and also just another way of milking more cash.

Lately i been reading romance because i'm bored, that's when i noticed this stalkish behavior is very normal in this genre.

And you have to deal with this toxic parent route for almost 600 chapters considering CN are that long.

Yep. There's also the green-tea bitch sister/adopted sister/or designated heroine getting handsome two-timing baster fiance. Like, seriously? Whenever I see that the MC's got a sister (step sister or younger sister), I know that it's gonna turn out that way. And somewhat related to this is the trope where babies get switched, so that the MC has to prove she's part of the family when they already have their designated daughter already, and I just don't get the fact that the MC has to go back to that family. Like, why? Is there a law in South Korea or China that stipulates that the MC has to go back to her birth family even when she already has another adopted family? Like, I just don't get it. Maybe it's just for plot reasons, I guess.

Well, this is one of the reasons I stopped reading romance Manhaw because the first time is ok but every single one of them is like this. What the fuck... but when that says more about the audience that reads this kind of story, some are tragic for sure. Still, the majority is more about the change and that is what catches the people... they want to see the ML change and be good to the FL while being a complete idiot to everyone.

Yeah, is like Isekai... now is more about the people who read it than the people who write about it, is just interesting. Is about women wanting this fantasy of a guy who is a completely insane dude who could kill her at any point but doesn't because he loves her, well, is a fantasy. Hahaha, the same thing going to another world and having a harem of women. hahaha

This has to do with old, perveading ideals and it's virtually everywhere, and I really don't like it. Wen I was younger and hadn't discovered online reading resources yet, I had been reading quite a lot of romance aimed at women because they had female protagonists, but I was frequently turned off by the male lead, and even more by fl's behavior in regards to the ml, and very nearly dropped multiple stories because of that.

One of the main reasons why I enjoy GL is that those relationships are free of a huge amount of baggage, tropes, and expectations that are present in straight romance. They have their own, of course, but far wider and less restrictive.
