Netherland has the best bike lanes in the world. They also have great transportation and have lots of walkable neighborhood.

Their cities are quiet too as they're more epdestrian friendly and not as car centric as most countries in the world. I would advise you to try visiting there at least once.

Where do you live right now? That is very important. your question is too broad and frankly quite naive. emigration does not work like this. discard any sense of security you have if you're going to be stranded on a foreign country.

what happens when you fly out, go to your apartment and find out it does not exist. are you going to the police? can they even understand you? will they care? It's a common scam here to have rent/sell an apartment to multiple people and run with the money.

my best advice would be to look for a place that shares similar values to yours (western). Or somewhere you have family or friends living as they can show you the ropes and take care of logistics.


for country choice I'd highly suggest sticking to europe if you're from there. otherwise you'd just be raising the difficulty level.

for africa, do not go to any black country. you will not be welcomed and they are not stable. there's a constant power struggle and it is only getting worse. that limits you to northern africa and south africa (the country). SA is fucked. It is very very unsafe especially for white people. multiply the unsafety factor by 2 for women (applies for any country really).

this leaves us with northern africa. I'd say there's only Egypt and Morocco. Egypt has a western version. but you cannot afford it with 500~1k usd. normal version will feel different but if you can adapt you will be fine. Egypt is a tourist attraction so some places are used to seeing foreigners. I'd recommend Alexandria (my city). No rural stuff though. Also we're neighbours to israel and might be going to war soon so there's that if you want to spice up your life a little.

Morocco is likely the most westernized country in northern africa. Likely the best choice from what little I know.


for asia, I'd say singapore or malaysia, mainly because that's where I'd go if I were to emigrate there. both are somewhat expensive though.

You honestly get a lot of the same on the mainland, and then turning right around and cursing Japan for the war crimes they committed in both China and Korea (a rare point where they actually agree on something). Forgetting the issue politics, because I know that can be a concern, Taiwan is more expensive than mainland China and it's harder to get a job there. I know that a lot of schools are looking for teachers, but Taiwan will require that you have a license and not a TEFL or something equivalent for other languages. The mainland doesn't have that problem and a decent apartment (full apartment, not studio flat) can be around 500/mo. The key to it is to live in a tier 2/3 city as they'll be large enough to have modern conveniences and some foreign presence that you can glom yourself onto but not so large that you have to deal with London/Paris/New York prices.

Some parts of Germany are certainly safer than others and there are some parts I wouldn't want to move to, but as a whole, Germany is a pretty safe place. If you're adamant about moving, I'd seriously consider taking him up on his offer, unless perhaps his part of the country is particularly problematic for some reason. Having a trusted local help you and provide you with the lay of the land makes moving countries on a budget a lot safer. And cheaper. Making mistakes while moving across the world quickly gets... expensive.

I think this is inescapable right now. Sweden, where I live, doesn't have the Euro and groceries are still getting much more expensive here as well. The inflation issues are widespread.

I do not expect there exists anywhere in the world you can comfortably live on <1000$ a month. However, stay the heck out of the desert. Climate change is giving those miserable desert people hot tempers to match their hot summers, and in the immortal words of Mark Twain, Whisky's for drinking but Water's for fighting over. Arizona for example is on the verge of anarchy because of their rapidly drying desert climate. Have you considered somewhere cold and rainy? Take a look at Ushuaia Argentina or Happy Valley Goose Bay Canada. Ushuaia in particular has an average summer temperature of 48F and winter temperature of 38F, so if you like mild weather, there will be both rain and snow every month of the year.

You have a safe place to stay at Germany and German skills? You can probably get work fast and if not you can get Bürgergeld for the time being as EU citizen. Workforce is needed, you have papers, no need to work on the black market.

In Germany you won’t get rich, but you will never starve. Inflation is everywhere. I know people who regularly live in Thailand for a couple of months but work remotely and get their salary with German standards. You can work in Germany and occasionally go back to Bulgaria. It’s cheaper there.

Lots of Bulgarian/Hungary/Polish people do that. But I’m on the German side so you better ask your brother how he copes with the prices.

I would still say that food prices in Germany are still affordable, pricier than before corona; yeah, but with a job and wise budget planning it’s doable.
