I'm a writer, and this platform has become an essential part of my journey. Over the years, I’ve built a reputation with numerous accounts featuring original novels and translations, collectively drawing in over thousands of readers. Everything had been progressing smoothly—I even launched Patreons that quickly gained traction, with loyal supporters pledging regularly. This milestone allowed me to contribute financially to my family, reshaping my image from a once introverted, homebound, and somewhat lazy student into a dependable and responsible member of the household.

But what I once thought was stable ground has started to feel like the calm before a storm. While I won’t disclose exact figures, my earnings have been significant enough to surprise my family—to the point of arousing suspicion. Writing is often viewed as a low-income pursuit, and given that I haven’t yet graduated, my steady income has raised eyebrows. The real challenge, however, is on the horizon: my brother, who recently completed his graduation, will be returning home in a matter of days. He’s expressed curiosity about my work and wants to see firsthand how I’m earning this income.

This presents a serious dilemma. While I could show him one of my Patreon accounts that doesn't include any R18 content, the withdrawal history from that account alone wouldn't account for the total amount I’ve earned. The discrepancy would undoubtedly raise questions. On top of that, some of my novels contain a fair amount of strong language and mature themes. If any member of my family—my brother, my sisters, or, worst of all, my parents—were to see even a single profane word or an explicit scene, it would spell disaster. My brother might keep it discreet, but if my sisters see anything questionable, it’s game over. My parents would be informed, and the fallout would likely include days of tense silence, followed by constant scrutiny about my work.

These are the worst-case scenarios I’ve played out in my mind—scenarios that, given the current situation, feel frighteningly plausible. While in reality, my brother isn't returning and my family’s suspicions are an imagination of mine for now, but the possibility of someone accidentally stumbling upon my work looms over me. If that ever happens, will I be able to weather the storm, or AM I TRULY SCREWED?! Also is there anyone else in the same condition as me

Simple, just say I write stuff and some people like them enough to pay for it. Describe it as boring as possible so they lose interest immediately.

That is the thing, this suspicion they got isnt easy to resolve hence want help/solutions.

They got this prejudices about "writers".
Its like saying "i work in security" and parents thinking you are in mafia and stuff. But usually in stories using this trope, the MC show them the company he works with and show its legal. But OP fear that they double check more (which is possibly likely) especially as they seem very old fashioned, like old catholical prude people.

And well, the "trust" they got for OP isnt flying high bc of precedence of "homebound/lazy"

I almost thought you're serious, only to read in the last paragraph that it's a Scenario.

As for me, I've been honest with my family, a little bit. Only my brother knows what I'm writing, unless he spoke about it to others. My parents knows that I'm writing but they don't know what exactly I'm writing. However, I helped them build our house, fix our roof, put tiles on the floor, pay the bills, pay my brother's college tuition, and also put food on the table. I'm proud of myself despite my depression.

If he isn't deranged he'll understand that you're good enough for sexually obsessed people so much that they want to part their money for piece of text on the internet. Show +18 it without remorse and say this meme:
work.jpg

If he's unhinged and doesn't understand simple economics, my condolences. There's no saving from getting embarrassed.

My family was really strict with me too. Most of it goes away once you move out. Though I would suggest not burning any bridges with your family. My best suggestion would be to make fake versions that are clean according to your family's standards and release that. Though you seem to already be doing that.

You can just say no.

Get a therapist; they aren't just for crazy people.
will I be able to weather the storm

Pretty much everyone who lives with their parents (pretty much every erotica artist I know is in their late 20s or 30s now, but they started making their art when they were in their teens). If you're as successful as you claim, then move out; it's much easier to have privacy that way.

Write them a letter. You tell your fam that you have an onlyfans. Make them believe you do the dirtiest stuff for money, but now you run out of ideas and plan to advance with co stars. Make it sound dramatic as if you write your erotica, but make it believable like your thought of scenario. You have to make them speechless, make them almost faint. You have to step up your game with one reveal to the next one.

Then you slowly list every bad thing you did and tell them it was made up so that they can rest assured. Then you confess that you are writing erotica and that it earns money. How relieved they will be that you are just writing stuff.

Obviously the above was unreliable troll advice. Just saying you do commissioned translations or being ghostwriter for others thus being obligated to keep the works confidental would deter anyone from digging deeper.

You can just say no.

Yeah; he made us read all that only to end it like, "This isn't happening to me, but it could one day."

Serves me right for visiting the forums rather than reading more smut in Smuthub.

I miss the days when people would roast OP until the thread gets locked :blob_teary: At least we could get some goot comedy between the smut binge reads.

I'd rather die instead of breaking ties with my family for some smutty tales :)

Anyways, this thread was not meant to be serious... It was meant to boil up some guys' minds and they did got cooked?

You must prepare. Start putting up anime posters. Start using weeb slang, order lewd phone cases and start adding “nyan” to the end of your sentences. You need to gradually make them numb for whatever you do.

Nah, dood. Weebs aren't on the shoot-on-sight list anymore. Long gone are the days when we needed to be stealthy and mysterious about our hobbies, long gone is the feeling of wonder and the thrill of danger.

Nowadays you just say you're a freelance author and if people ask if they should know you, just say it isn't their genre and that you're writing for a more selected demographic and then you describe something specific enough their curiosity is sated, but they'd never read your stories.

Curate your content. Make sure your family sees what they "can handle" - if they want to probe a bit more, then, well, if you're living at home, you have some problems but if you're out on your own, a legal adult, then just don't worry about it.
