Is there any character/plot you really badly want to write your own version off?

For me I‘ve really wanted to do a story inspired by the character Parker Barrows from the malifuax table top miniatures game.

The character is a former nobleman who was cheated out of his inheritance by a scheming brother. He travels to the newly discovered alternate dimension of malifaux and becomes a bandit, vowing to steal back his family fortune one penny at a time. I just thinks it’s a cool idea, and concept for a sympathetic but still morally bad villain/ antihero mc

I guess the typical Isekai'd reincarnator summoned hero story that everyone hates. I've laid out a lot of the ground work for two or three versions of the story, but don't have near enough time to actually manage it.

Oh, and Dungeon Battle Royal. The trouble is I don't actually want to write that one. I like the idea of playing a low-stakes board game based on the concept. When I actually tried to write it, I kept changing things over and over until I eventually just circled back around to a different concept entirely.

It's... really rare for me to find a concept I'd genuinely like to steal. I always end up changing things too much.

Media with good battle systems like HxH, Avatar, and Jojo. I love the stories and characters in these series but I like experimenting with battle systems a lot. Way too much…

I do this all the time, not only settings but also characters. I just change the names and twist things here and there but the essence remains.

I always find I want enough changes that I don't think it even counts as ripping off something that already exists. That said, foxgirls of all sorts.

Nen contracts. But if I just take them verbatim, it's clearly a rip off, so I made do with just setting a pre-determined condition for every power.

I kind of wanna do a Mercenary Enrollment set in an American Private school, and with an MC that talks slightly more, so I can have him hold a bully by his neck from a balcony and say "don't joke about killing, especially if you're too much a pussy to do it"

Whatever I happen to be reading at the time.
Literally. For the past year every single story I read I end up day dreaming about how I’d want to do it. (Not saying I’d do better than the author just literally like “how would I play with these toys”)

Rip it off... Ideas by themselves are not something that you can copyright. just make sure to add your own twist to it. Change the setting, the theme, add more interesting twists, Fix the problems with it. Make it better... Ehm... Add a harem... Just my opinion...

Otome Isekai revenge story but the FL would be a cold-blooded serial killer who would murder her enemies in the most violent and horrific ways. Romance between a potential (detective?) ML and the FL would be second only to her thirst for murder.

I've always wanted to write an original fiction about a superman-like character getting the isekai treatment, but it was kind of hard ripping off superman, since his powers are too synonymous with his name it has become his brand.

One of the stories in my "Fuck You" list. There's three stories in there so far and the only one that gives me unbridled rage is the one I'm actively ripping off. To be fair, it won't be a complete rip-off. Mostly because I abandoned it after ten chapters.

Context: Guy is portrayed as confident and fairly level-headed. Come the tenth chapter, he gets turned into a bitch in the most blase way possible. To force the plot forward of course. Best part is that a review says that it gets worse. "Oh the noes. She tried to rape me. I'll fogive her. Might as well still fuck her now." I'm glad I gave up on it. I would have been smacked over the head in the seventy chapters leading up to that review.

So, I'm stealing the beginning. Making the MC just leave instead of being forced into a situation that doesn't even require it. After that, balls to the wall. No clue what happened with the story so it will be different. Did help with the one thing I struggle with, actually starting.

I'm in the same boat of ripping off something I hate, but doing it well to be what I believe it ought to be instead.

"Living it for the Plot" was my attempt at writing a decent guy in a world that runs on NTR/porno logic, and I think it ended up really good. When thrown into a situation where it would be easy for him to have sex and get something out of it, he refuses because it involves adultery or because it would hurt someone (eg. his milf landlord was really lonely and willing to give him back his rent payment for sex, but MC realized she needs that money to pay off the mob who she owes a debt to. So instead he just spends an evening and just talks to her for that time, giving her what she really needed: a friend)

I really should get back to writing that soon, I was almost at the end of book 2 and about to start the climax

Hands down, Aizen.
Bro is a savage that destroys people with nothing but words. Unfortunately I'm not savage enough to come up with such violating dialogue for a character.

But I do get a chance to make my own version, at this point it's the only way to give my already OP mc something to fight.
Once my mc beats my version of Aizen, I'm not sure how to even continue the story without dealing a nerf card.

I never knew Aizen, but I managed to pull it off in one of my fanfics, a reader began commenting 'Aizen's Disciple', definitely one of the highlights of my writing hobby for years. The best part was the keikaku memes that came along with it.

Malifaux was one of the first miniature games I tried. Really showed me how bland and uninspired the settings of other tt games games like Warhammer and Dungeons and Dragons are.
I don't know much about it, but I do know that it is fairly unique, and has lots of cool characters. I heard their price policy and casting quality is what really doesn't allow the game to thrive, though it was like 5 years ago. Did anything change since then?
