writers of AG, do you have any guide to write a coherent story?
Honestly? Don't think too much and just try having fun~

We're all amateurs here and we just want to play around and enjoy the experience. Don't give things too much thought and just go with the flow~
1. Too many dialogue. 2. word choice (I don't get the concept of character voice, honestly. I thought it was just how they speak, but my dialogue felt lacking and artificial). 3. plot structure. Exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, conclusion. I feel like, what I write don't even have that structure. It feels flat.
Ah... Well, this is something you better stop worrying about tbh.

We are our harshest critic. I wrote for 4 different roleplays now, have two dozen or so completed short stories and a whole novel done too... Yet I still often times think my narration and dialogue feel clunky, artificial and that it doesn't flow very well... That's just normal, don't worry too much about not being super content with your work, because in all honesty, most authors aren't. We just do our best and try to deliver what we can~

If you really feel like you need to change something, you can always try experimenting with different styles and seeing where it goes. It at least gives you a view on different perspectives and how you feel writing them.

I want to retire my character. How do I do that?
You wanna stop playing with your character, you mean?

You don't really need to do anything, really, just stop writing for them.

If you wanna make a new one, just create it and put them on the registration page, then put it on your signature while removing the retired one from it.

100% agreed! I think one of the advantages of writing in this kind of environment is that you can experiment with a lot of different styles and possibilities!

Most importantly, make sure that writing remains fun for you!

The more than you write, the better you will get!

I just wanted to mention that thanks to @Generic.Archdemon and @Zoey , the Quest Log has gotten all the way through the month of February!

If people want to browse through and add tags to their entries, the idea is that maybe eventually the tags could be used to make library entries. Tags should be proper nouns (e.g. Slime, Bloodflower) or NPCs mentioned in your quest reports.

Oh, I had a random idea. I don't know if it's a bad idea or not, so I want to get people's thoughts!

Proposal: EXP transfer
  • Issue: You recently made a new character, but you don't want them to be Level 1 and you don't want to grind them?
  • Solution: Transfer EXP from one of your previous characters to your new character.
  • How to do this:
    • In-character: Have your high-level character encounter some sort of problem that nerfs their strength (e.g. sickness, disease, sealing magic, stolen powers, lost arm, etc.).
    • Your high-level character loses EXP and will be forced to do lower level quests (note: characters can keep their rank though).
    • Transfer that lost EXP to one of your new characters.
    • Note: Maximum EXP transferred is 50%. Your new character can't be higher level than your old character.

Well... I won't say much. I'm not planning on using this myself after all. My character is basically an opportunity for me to live another life so I just can't change him. Well back on topic. The idea is good and the proposed method of realization too. It's just a bit hard how to make a coherent story about how the new character gets the level up. After all, in Toniathere are no level. It would be basically a transfer of memories, both brain memory and muscle memory. And the muscle memory would be transferred from the "future" version of the char... Well, I've gotten a bit carried away. The idea is good I think. But it can become detrimental to the narrative of the character life in Tonia

Mhm, I wasn't really thinking of there being an actual transfer of something IC.

It's more of an OOC mechanism.

It's more like an excuse for you to make a new character that is stronger than level 1 immediately out of the otherworld gate.

I mean, I had some worries about how the exponential exp rewards might lead to new characters starting easily at E or even D-rank requirements, but uhn...

Losing 50% of the exp is still a lot and you still need to do some pre-requisite quests and stuff... Not to mention that if you wanted to kill off a C-B rank character before giving their exp away, you probably played for quite a while and want to develop the new character properly anyways~

So... It looks fine as is to me~

I don't think any change is necessary, but if I were to suggest one, it would be to cap the exp receiving to 2000 exp.

Oh, when you mentioned it... Isn't Rank in Tonia something similar to your recognition/fame so how's that the new character, just arriving at AG is getting his let's say D rank?

I'm guessing they would still need to do the rank-up quests.

A more punishing alternative is to suggest a level transfer instead of an EXP transfer.

For instance, you can take away 3 levels from your level 12 character (12 - 3) and give it to your level 1 new character (1 + 3).

A lot of EXP is wasted this way, and it hurts a lot more...

But I'm fine with an EXP transfer (or a capped EXP transfer) too. Honestly I'm okay with whichever way the community would prefer it to be.

Add a 1 level transfer penalty and I will love it
so
Chara 1: Level 12 - 3
Chara 2: Level 1 + 2 (1 level lost to ether)
