I see a lot of good potential reasons here so I would add pettiness. I mean if you portray the child as incredibly petty and narcissistic, it can be believable that they would inflict such a gruesome fate on their own mother. The problem with that approach is that either the child being incredibly petty must be either hinted at, the crux of the story, or even a critical story event of some kind because if it's done wrong then it seems like an asspull from out of nowhere.
