Had this question as I recalled the hero in the 2nd world in Soul of Negary who yelled "this is unfair" after knowing that he is nothing more of a puppet for fate.

So here is my question to you, would you be the designated hero, with no understanding of your situation, be on a life of adventure and stuff and perhaps ending in a happy ending?

I mean, I will.

Who doesn't want their life to be good? No control of my own life but generally moving in a positive manner is good.

Best part might be that I will never know that I am nothing more of a chess piece.

As a norma human, to be a Designated Hero, You will suffering a lot.

And its not the bitter Suffering meant for normal human consumption.

Its the type of suffering that would make normal human wish for death, and nobody would blame you.

Its far preferable to suffer terminal cancer where you could simply knows that you're about to peafully die and leave the world without any fatal consequence for the world.

Dont underestimate the burden of agony of the Designated Hero.

Being a hero will have you become a magnet for jealousy, resentment and other 'humanistic' shit stuff, not to mention, the hate of the people you 'fought' because of your 'heroics'. Puppet or not.

I'm talking from experience. I mean, I may not be the typical 'isekai' hero, but I tried to be one when I had the chance. I suffered greatly from it; some of its effects I'm still paying today. You know my story.

So, no. I won't be a hero (again), nor will I recommend others to be one. Unless they are prepared to suffer.

Heroes die or become the villain in the end. So maybe.
It depends on what is at stake.
Kind of why I say you will never know that you yourself is the one who volunteered for such a life.

All your choices, emotions and thoughts are not yours once you choose such a hero life.

You will feel anger, sadness and frustration, but you will never quit.

Because you can't.

Damn. It be hell for myself.

Fortunately I am a worthless bum with no will for self improvement.

Still resenting my current life though, but satisfied at least.

Ps. You will also enjoy perks. I forgot to say. Since you are the "hero", fate will fluff you with blessings.

Of course, I can't quit. My students' lives depend on my determination; we're talking of sexual predators. I can't simply turn a blind eye though I get death threats.

But if I can choose, I'd gladly have others do it for them instead. Someone who 'wields' more power and authority than me.

Yeah.

But power corrupts/ show our inner nature ie lazy and bully.

Aye. I agree with this. I've seen people end up being the villain because of power...

I can say I'm also one before; I've been stupid once, though I don't want to do it again. Nowadays, I'd like to build people than destroy them.

The Hero's Journey is rife with struggle. Unless you're determined enough to push through it, you won't receive your happy ending.

I'm not such a person, so no. If I had the choice, I'd want to be just a random side character.

No. I'd rather be the guy banished from the hero's party. They seem to have a much better time and get chicks with big tahtahs quite often. Big fan of that.

I'd also much rather not have to deal with the crap that comes with being a hero. I'd much rather do my part in my own way. Never was a fan of the spotlight.

I hate being around others, a hero would have to interact with many.
I just desire a peaceful and slow life without action or hectic.
On the other hand if becoming some kind of hero I gain merits a normal person can't have and I truly desire I would become a hero.
Either way I'm and never will be in control of anything about me.

I mean, we could be chest pieces moving according to some entity's whim right now. The point is we'll never know.

If you say you're in control of your life and your future, how can you be sure you saying that and believing that is not actually designed beforehand? Again, we'll never know.

So, if given a chance to know that there is actually a thing called fate controlling you and that you're going in a positive direction, that's a huge relief, in my opinion.

If you can't change fate, then no matter what you do, you can be certain things will always turn out alright. Ironically, that's actually very freeing.

Everyone has their opinions dispersed, and they all vary between philosophical and practical.

But, we all agree on one part.

You're an underling, not a hero. You'll either happily accept being a designated hero or suffer in terror from being one.

Depend if I'm OP or not. If it's the first, I can just said fuck you and move freely in the world.
No matter how OP Saitama is, he is still just a manga character created by ONExMurata.

Unless you pull the "usurp the creator" BS. Which in my question, no you do not get to do that.

I would probably be the designated hero`s talking animal sidekick or mute orphan companion. My job is to be the hero`s morality chain, preventing them from falling into despair and cynicism no matter how difficult our journey.

Depends on the circumstances, firstly: Do I have a choice and is that choice a heavy one? Second: if I decline does that mean another is forced to that role. If either then I guess I'll take it just to get it over with. Life may be unfair but at least death is fair for all.

No you do not get a second opinion.

Either get into the damned robot Shinji or nah.

That is noble.
