Modern shounen manga is trash.

Yes, the simulation we live in is so badly done that the admin accidentally copy pasted the flavor of carrot on mango, and Sailus discovered it.
That's okay. You are already disowned. This queen cares not. :blob_sir:

Horikoshi might pull it back together for the ending, idk.

That time when blue exorcist
did an unexplained timeskip only to reveal it never actually happened and was just a possible future
still makes me laugh. I don't know why I'm still reading it.
I didn’t even read that far lmao. Hated the alternate ending of the first season and when the manga seemed to go in a similar direction, I kinda lost the will to read. Also the decreasing scan quality hurt my eyes.

What I can't understand myself is why is modern shounen trying to akame ga kill themselves... well probably because of the top new gens being basically that but even then I don't see the appeal in just killing off characters other than mature bait.
Chances are, most of the new shounen might be from new authors, who are inexperienced. This usually means they use some other shounens as reference, or add in the usual common tropes to try and make the story interesting. Not to mention, the more sane an author is, the more it tends to be generic (I mean, look at Tatsuki Fujimoto, he literally tried to levitate, but man is his work pretty good)
Not to mention how people don't like taking risks nowadays. They may think of a good story, but drop it because they either cant figure out how to continue, or just bunch in a ton of generic stuff that kills the story. take "from today I'm the lord" which from what I heard, apparently just added in magic suddenly, despite having gone like 300 ish chapters doing things with the assumption magic was non-existent.
Reminder that shonens are targeted at high schoolers (<18 years old)
This too. Cause of the target, they need to stick to certain tropes, otherwise the target demographic just ignores it entirely, and the ones they don't ignore may not be what they think it is.

If you need something to read, try Houseki no Kuni (land of the lustrous)
it has 1 season of anime (when season 2) and is complete at 108 chapters with really good artwork with a premise which I've yet to see be done yet in other media (that I've found)

image is what I think is from the manga, and isn't too many chapters deep, currently not on a device that can access the manga without taking 30 years to load so had to use google

The last shouben-y thing I read was Yozakura Family, and I actually liked it before I ran out of chapters to read. Rarely happens nowadays, tho, so SailorGebbels might be onto something...

There are obviously exceptions, but it's a drop in the ocean of mediocrity. Welp, at least I understand why there is no new "big three."
But... there are a big three.
A month has passed since the day I asked for modern shounen manga recs. In that month I've tried out 20+ shounens. To ease the search, I made up my own criterias of what is a modern shounen. A Japanese manga that is tagged as shounen, came out 2018+, no isekais.

Majority of those shounens is fucking trash. Boring, unimaginative, generic, tropey pieces of trash. It's not about me liking them or disliking them. It's an objective fact. We have five or six stories about assassins, we have three or more stories about onmyoji, gazillion sports shounens about dancing, and so on.

All while themes of the stories are the most predictable crap ever. Oh wow, a story about human-like androids? We should definetely write the whole story around a question of "what is soul, and what makes a human, human." Of course we have to, cause it's so new and unique, no one has done it before.

Oh, we have a middle-aged MC? Yeah, make him act like a highschooler. Put the most blatant, obvious "red and blue oni" trope in your story. Don't forget to kill off a character that readers do not care about, cause deaths make your work mature. Make lots of absurd humor cause you are funny, and you must make your characters act as if all the absurdities are normal, it is also very unique.

Don't you dare make normal people with understandable motivations, every character have to be soooooo deep, deeper than mariana trench. By the way, MC has to gather comrades one by one, MC has to have a squad, and every new member of the squad has to have a sobby backstory. Make the most contrived powers if you are writing a battle shounen. And sometimes, you can even make a manga with a plothole the size of a Mirny's diamond mine, readers are gonna read it anyway.

There are obviously exceptions, but it's a drop in the ocean of mediocrity. Welp, at least I understand why there is no new "big three."
This feels like you are trying to get a rise out of people... :blob_hmm_two: An overly exaggerated take with multiple elements of truth heavily buried under hyperbole.:blobreading:

Occasionaly one title will hit it big, but it does not happen simultaneously. As much as I think that JJK is meh, it is very popular, but not AS popular. Demon Slayer is as popular as big three, but it has already ended. ?‍♂️

About exaggeration, I mentioned some stuff that frustrated me a lot. However, I didn't even try to write a proper critique. I could've spent my time to actually write a humongous thread, explaining what exactly is wrong in great details, buuuuuuut, what's the point? No matter how much time I would spend, I know the result. People will say, "you can't be objective when you assess art." Or some similar bullshit.

In the end, I'm just severely dissapointed, so I had to let it out.
