Readers like self inserting themselves on a character that's popular with women, so writers take advantage of that to get attention for their stories.

...but where's the sastifaction of knowing your story become popular because of your writing style/grammer if authors use such umm tactics?

Satisfaction comes from the attention itself, it doesn't mater how you get it. It can also come from money, though I don't think many on SH are actually making money.

There's also the possibility that the writers also like self inserting themselves on their MCs, so they write those kinds of stories simply because they enjoy it. Same reason fanfics are common on the site.

Why do all Female Manga have Multiple guys interested in the FL MC?
Oh look, I'm super beautiful, the daughter of a duke, and have the magical power of an archmage. For some reason I'm totally clueless about the fact MULTIPLE PRINCES WANT TO MARRY ME ON TOP OF A FEW RANDOM HANDSOME BAD BOYS.

The only difference is, the guys actually bang the girls, where as the girl is jerking around four of the five guys.

their are many reasons for harem.
variety is better. eating the same meal every day would get boring no mater how good it tastes
im such a beast in bed it is impossible for one woman to satisfy me. to prevent her to feel guilt it is only natural for her to invite help.

their is no such thing as a bad harem, only a bad protagonist.

Oh. and my favorate story, HKN, has no harem, in fact, the MC is super loyal to his DEAD WIFE.
The story is pushing 275k words, is really a trilogy in its own right, has oodles of plot, and has got an ending that will make you cry and smile at the same time.

I have like... 12 readers.

It is a labor of love, but people like sex. No matter how great the story is, how emotional, how it hits you in the feels and is jammed packed with life lessons and philosophy and multiple perspectives on complex issues.... There's no sex, so it has almost no readers.

Which is fine.

But if you want to be popular, sex sells.
It's the opposite.
What stories are you reading? Almost all the female centric stories usually wind up with her emotionally jerking around multiple guys, then picking one.

Likes boost dopamine. Basically an addiction. It's the same case with why use the other popular tropes, not just harem? There are many threads here of authors who aren't writers of specific popular tropes but want to learn it to get readers, like litrpg.

Outside of writing, you can also compare that to permofance enhancing drugs for fitness influencers then claiming they're natural. Can even compare it to edited photos and people claiming that's how they really look. It's not about the actual thing but about the addiction to likes, followers, etc.

Anyway, back to the harem thing, it's obvious that it's just for fantasy purposes. Juggling multiple women in real life is a nightmare.

I was wrong. What I wanted to say is, when it comes to Japanese novels and manga, even shojo has a lot more sex in it than seinen. Shojo is works for young girls, while seinen is works for 18+ boys. While majority of josei(works for older women) is smut. So, when it comes to Japanese novels and manga, your statement is wrong. Reverse harems have much more sex in them than usual harems. The same kinda applies for translated Chinese novels(I'm mostly talking about novels on NU). Although it's more of 50-50 in that case. Don't know about Korean much. As for novels that were written in English, dunno. Maybe reverse harems have less sex in them. I have't read them. So, based on this, we both were wrong.
But if you want to be popular, sex sells.
When it comes to web novels, if nothing has changed, LitRPG sells more than sex. Again, if nothing has changed, RR earns the most right not. And it's either LitRPG there, or get out. Moreover, their content guidelins are a lot stricter. You can't write tons of r-18 content.

More girls to smash, wider variety.
THIS!

I think it's more about choosing the right audience. A lot of SH readers like smut the same way a lot of RR readers like LitRPG. So if you want to get readers then its best to know what's trending on that platform, use that trope, hook the readers and then throw life lessons, philosophy and stuff
