What makes you want to start to write one or read one?

What elements of the idea make it fun for you to read or write?

I'm just looking for a different opinions and ideas about them.

Disclaimer: I find fun in doing what I hate.

1.Not being required to have the plot, characters, themes and scenery revolve around it.
2. Well if I'm being honest, spite.
Yes I'm writing out of spite because a book whose name I can't remember was so terrible and mentally insulting that I told myself I could do better.
3. Just because your story has that tag doesn't mean you have to make it your focus.
Anima Aliena is definitely not a story about a genderbended protagonist coming to terms with the change.
In actuality, its a psychology and high fantasy where the protagonist tries to adapt to the absurdity around her.

Pretty sure people are just perverted and like the shock of genderbender so that’s like the only reason they like it.

Depends on what kind of story you want.

Sometimes people make the genderbender aspect lead to comedic scenes and played for laughs. In this case it can work out on a more light-hearted series.

Sometimes people make the genderbender aspect lead to minor changes on one's life and forces the character to adapt to some things and changes their perspective a bit, but doesn't amount to much.

Other times the focus of the story is the gender bending in itself. With the character struggling with their own gender identity and being confused about what they think of themselves and on who they are.

Which one you prefer is really up to you. I personally prefer the story focusing on the gender bender aspect because I feel like you shouldn't include gender bending if you aren't going to actively focus on it, but that's just me. Different people prefer different things.

Ah, and well, there is also the romance aspect that can often times be pretty strong in genderbenders. Having the character wonder about their own sexual preferences and whatnot can be pretty interesting to read about too... Though there is nothing wrong in not focusing on romance at all, or having the romantical preferences of the MC set up from the start and having them be unaffected by the gender bending.

It is more a chore. I read it sometimes to stay familiar with the concepts.

The very conept is pain for me, because i provided counseling to kids over the internet and in canada, they perform trans surgery on kids as young as 11. Richard eventually committed suicide.

Parents of perfectly nornal gay kids are mutilating their children because they are homophobic. They hate the idea of a gay child, so it is easier to change the kids gender, rather than deal with the fact your kid just might be a faggot.

I spent four years trying to keep Richard from offing himself.

Ultimately I failed.

I find the whole genre to be a comedy mocking the pain of real victims of society's inability to accept that some children are just born different.

That's dark but don't treat yourself too harshly.

I might as well start a thread saying "What makes Incest fun?" And read the cringe replies.

Lol.
I don't particularly care for gender bender but I have to say I can read and enjoy them if there is thought put into the story and character learning their situation. Unfortunately not a lot of that is seen on SH.

I'm quite gender fluid, so I read whatever gender including gb.

Different authors have different takes on things. The times it makes no sense to me I just have to chalk it up as vicarious wish fulfillment. In that context it's very similar to normal wish fulfillment stories. Plot holes, rule of cool, bad grammar and structure.

Some people just don't want to be male but live with it for a variety of reasons. I'ma very back and forth person so unless I get Mystique (X-Men) powers, there's just no point for me.

On the other hand, gb actually offers alot of stories which are A-ro A-se. Which I am firmly in. It's similar in amount as normal stories while being a smaller subgenre. The less harem or shit romance the better for me.

Romance mixed with gb really is a curse.
Disclaimer: I dislike romance novels due to having been force fed those H movies.

I don't touch the things in SH because they are rather poorly made.

Gender bender is a genre (?) like Isekai where you would discover the world and go on an adventure/ exploration, but somehow, people just want to use the tag for "hey, my boi now a gal, cool right?"

The genre is supposed to be something you use as a point of interest and discussion, not as a clickbait and background.

Actually, tons of CN and JP do this shit as well, making me ask why bothering the sex change in the first place.

Put very simply: got tired of JP immature mc, discovered gender-bend, thought fuck it and checked it out, got hooked, thought oh cool, what a fucking difference it makes just by the mc changing gender!

On a more serious note, though: it’s cute~ uwu

Now I’ve been wondering about those Gender Bender writers that are Transgender themselves

I don't know where this idea is that they're handing transition affirming surgery out like crazy to kids. The process is heavily regulated and at the age of 11 children will be encouraged to start socially transitioning and get on puberty blockers until they're old enough to get on hrt if that's something they're interested in.

The idea that parents are the ones pushing kids to be trans is absolutely bizarre when you look at both the rates of homeless trans youth as well as how the rate of suicide goes down for trans kids when they are in an affirming home. You're just spreading weird right wing conspiracy theories.

Anyway as a trans person. I just want some damn wish fulfillment sometimes. The trick is, the transgender tag is the sign of actual quality for a gender bender story because actual trans authors use that. There are a lot of trans people who read gender bender for a space where people are actually positive about transcending the gender binary and not immediately spout weird reactionary shit like The Eldritch God just demonstrated.

I like an idea where character (after they got genderbent) have to look at themselves and the society around them differently.

I also like it when character found that what he thought as a fact when he was in the previous gender being just wrong.

I also like it when character have to adapt to new surrounding ( Yes I know this doesn't require genderbent but genderbent make character adaptation harder)

As long as the pre-genderbent character and post-genderbent character is the same character and it wasn't used in a sexist and transphobic way, this trope is my favorite.

Have you considered making him wear one of this simulation bellies? They also have chests.

And with enough effort, males can lactate!

It's why stories like The Reincarnation of Alysara are nice. Though I don't believe souls have a gender so I don't mind not having gender identity issues in reincarnation stories.

I know, but my milk came in late, and I spent a lot of effort building up my milk supply, so that's a sunk cost now. I'd rather have him cooking dinner and cleaning the house than putting in effort for something I've already done.
