According to the surveys I just googled, men cheat 20% of the time and women cheat 13% of the time, with other US studies holding similar trends. Since this is a cultural/power thing more than an inherent gender thing, I'd imagine that the numbers would shift depending on the nation or even the specificity of the sample.

Also note that the studies I could find relied on relatively small sample sizes, the linked one was one composed of just ~1200 compared to America's population of 329 million. Drawing a conclusion from them may be premature until I do some deep diving, but I'm editing right now, and I'm not too interested in the subject.

The trends point to men. One could argue that it's men getting caught or admitting it at a higher rate, but that's just nebulous conjecture at best, and disingenuous at worst.

Men or women, either can cheat. The reason for cheating may differ but I don't think it's possible to narrow it down and say which is more likely.

Now...personality types. Yes. I think you can judge it based on personality types but even so, I don't think it's possible to generalize easily.

First of all, any gender can cheat on their lover, but if we’re talking about the statistic, then I don’t know. Though, I’m pretty sure there are some researchs about this subject somewhere if you wanna know.

A word of caution, though: don’t look at only one source even if it has the word “science“ in it; words can be deceiving, and some research might even be biased.

Just keep an open mind and keep searching for the answer, then think for yourself after all you can find.

If you strip down all the culture imposed values and pressures and get down to biology... considering the maximum number of children a woman could potentially give birth to during her lifetime, versus the number of children a man could potentially father during his lifetime... considering things like risks from childbirth... and what limits pregnancy imposes one what one can and can't do... etc... and the primary? directive of life is to reproduce, no? ... or the survival of the genes or something... The only reason I can think of for married women to cheat less is probably because they are ready to settle down by the time they want to marry.
