That sucks.
No they are not, at least when I checked right now. The 3 suggestions are refreshed about every 30min, and right now they are literally the 3 picks from 24min ago, 27 and 30-sth.No, smut isn't filtered, and there is no connection between newness, statistics, and being shown on NU. Right now, it's absolutely random.
I guess I didn't phrase it well enough. Yes, stories on the NU sidebar are from the latest updates. The question is, how are they chosen? Sometimes, the stories on the sidebar are there for a couple of minutes. While sometimes, they are there for an hour or so. How are they chosen? The keywords you said were: "I checked right now". I monitored this for a couple of days as I couldn't understand what happened and why. There is no connection with views, tags, readers, favorites, etc. All of them are from the latest updates, yes. Yet why some story is on the sidebar for an hour, despite the fact that there is a constant influx of new chapters of other stories. While the other story either isn't there at all or put on the sidebar for a few minutes? A month ago, ALL stories would appear there. I mean all. Unless there was a very big influx, you would get some time there. Right now it's not like this anymore. No they are not, at least when I checked right now. My story never got listed there, so I just assumed it got changed so that only certain stories would be displayed. I'd noticed that all of the stories chosen had 'interesting' thumbnails with titles stitched on (That isn't the problem though, since some stories with titles are being skipped as well). I just ignored it because I didn't care, like you said.Yep, I was referring to your thread. However, my problem didn't get resolved, and my story still doesn't show up on the NU sidebar. The thing is, perhaps it's a new feature and not a bug? That's the whole point of this thread. Maybe someone knows something. But so far, there was no info. Only speculations. And somehow, those authors that are missing their appearance on NU don't care.
There was a story with Sexual Content on the list when I started reading this post. It was replaced by a popular story, skipping over 4 other stories, while I was looking.I've seen series skipped before. Every single time I've looked at the skipped series, it had "sexual content" in the contents warning box. That label in particular.
I've never noticed something with "Smut," "Adult," or "R-18" tags in isolation being skipped, but that might just be because they just about never appear without a "sexual content" warning to go with them.

1 of the skipped stories had 10k views, while one of the listed had 2k, so it isn't views either.
It's not ratings either. The 2k story had 4 ratings, two 1 stars and two 5 stars. One of the skipped had four 5stars.
Hmm. It changed again. Seems like it happens at specific timings. However, it skipped at least four more stories, with one of the ones that was chosen being a genre I had filtered out. Reminding me that some stories may have been skipped without me noticing.
About once every thirty seconds? Is that relevant somehow? And now, again, I ask the same question I have asked 3 times and you have not answered even once. How often are you refreshing the page over on Novel Updates?

I honestly don't care if it's a new feature. The thing is, I simply want some clarity. I want to understand did I or did not miss some info source of SH. If this is a feature, I have no qualms. I don't need to know how to get there. I want to understand where I can see if this is a feature. That's it. If this is a bug, ok. I don't need this fixed right here and right now. Am I asking too much? Is answering a question if this is a new feature or a bug too much?My story never got listed there, so I just assumed it got changed so that only certain stories would be displayed. I've definitely seen stories with 'Sexual Content' listed on it, so that's not the problem. I could try removing that tag from my story since I don't actually have any.
The other thing I can think of is if you changed the title or thumbnail, maybe it doesn't like that.

At this point, it's either 100% a bug, or it's random as a feature. There's no pattern at all.If this is a bug, ok
I now understand that it was a huge mistake not to take screenshots. I don't understand why you continue not believing what I say. I mean, I have some theory why some authors won't like this being discussed, but it's not like I'm asking to change this whole thing, right? Look into the novel: They Feed At Night that is being on the NU sidebar. Look at the tags and content warnings. Look at the number of readers and views. Look at the time they were updated. It's not a ten-minute rule, nor it's a half an hour rule. It's random. And this is ONE example. If you will continue to deny that you were mistaken, I don't think we should continue our conversation. because I don't have time to make screenshots for a single person from the forum. Unless it's one of the staff asking for help.
I provided a screenshot when I reported this problem, and I wasn't the only one with such a problem. There are two threads, each having one screenshot. I stated multiple times that there is a thread made by me in bug reports. Yet you, as you tried to gather the facts, didn't bother checking it. And there is no conspiration. I don't know what you are talking about, nor why you are using such a condescending tone. Yes, I thought that there is no need to provide proof as this isn't the problem only I have. I have no malicious intentions, I asked a question. And yes, I don't know how difficult coding is. But all I asked is an answer to the question. I didn't ask to fix it if this is indeed a bug.Dude, conspiratorial much? I am trying to get all the facts, which you were self-admittedly not providing. 1. you were not saying how often you were refreshing. If you were refreshing every half hour, then of course some series would be skipped. You, self-admittedly, were also not providing screen-shots.
I am not sure if you have ever worked in IT, but the rule in IT when you are trying to diagnose a problem with a piece of technology is #1, always check your connections. As in, see if the device is actually plugged in or not. In other words, try to rule out all the simple solutions before you go off believing it's a huge complex problem.
Now you actually are providing some evidence to back up your claims. You've provided things that people can go in and check for validity. So, good job, you have finally backed up your claim and it's no longer just your word here.
Now, considering your conspiratorial tone you were using up there, I am going to offer another potential simple solution. This time to what might be the reason why the problem is still not fixed. You did not provide a screen shot when reporting the problem. So, how about trying to report it as a bug again, this time posting that screen-shot along with it?
You shouldn't under-estimate how difficult coding can be. You need to give a coder like Tony all the information they need to work from. Otherwise they might just wind up wasting their time looking for a bug they don't even know where to begin looking into it for.
About once every thirty seconds? Is that relevant somehow?
Since I got reminded, I watched it for 20 minutes, and it skipped 3 stories(none of which had Sexual Content). The one it added was not the latest release either.
Edit: Oh my god, I am never doing screenshots again. It's such a fucking hassle.
Yes, there is a lot of questions. The whole point of this thread is to get an answer. Is this a bug or not? And I don't think there is an exclusion of authors. Currently, there is a novel that has chapters being dished out every couple of hours. Every time it shows up on the NU sidebar. As for sexual content, I don't know. I saw a lot of novels with sexual content on the NU sidebar.Oh hey! That's me...
Anyway, I think it is slightly bugged, or there are random exclusions we aren't aware of. Like when I saw three different novels uploaded by an author, but only the first one showed up. So maybe there is also an exclusion factor on the author to prevent spamming?
I know for sure that if the novel doesn't have a cover, it doesn't get shown.
Some novels get skipped that shouldn't be skipped. Could be poor timing? Or is there a word in the synopsis or title that gets filtered out?
I do think the intent is to filter out adult content, and when it's bugging, some content get through when it shouldn't have.

I've never worked in IT, and I'm a dumbass. It's not something I'm afraid of admitting. So, when I see for a month, how a lot of novels aren't being shown, yet there is zero response, like absolutely zero, what should I do? I asked a question, as I'm a dumbass. And what do I have as an answer? Accusations of some conspirational theories and telling me to refresh the page.
And yes, I answered you about refreshing the page yesterday, yet you tried to gather the facts, so probably, you didn't bother checking this out.
1. I didn't accuse you of malevolent intent for trying to get all the facts. I said that you aren't looking for the said facts. You stated yourself:Wow. Calm the **** down! Seriously! You are providing new information once again. The facts of the matter are, 1. You come in here stating that something is a problem. 2. I personally saw no evidence of this problem in my own experiences and there were viable alternate explanations based on my observations going back a while here. So, I offered those as possibilities. 3. You offered some statements to the contrary. 4. I started taking you seriously and asking for the information that you didn't provide in your facts to the contrary.
Now, moving on here, how much time do you think people have in their day to dedicate to things like this? I am not obligated to go about doing your leg-work when you are the person coming forward with a problem. In cases like these, if you want to complain about a problem, you are unfortunately obligated to provide all the facts yourself to every single new person who is exposed to the facts. The fact that you started a separate thread means nobody in this thread is obligated to check the back-data and history of this issue. As the person who started this thread, that is what YOU are responsible for.
It is unfortunate, but that is the way this world works. There are new people in here, and you have to freshly expose all the new people to the facts all over again. You may find it annoying, but that is simply the way the real world works.
As for the condescending tone, that would be because you are acting quite irrational right now. 1st you accuse me of having some malevolent intent for trying to get all the facts and not just accepting everything you say at face value and searching for alternate explanations. (Or, in this case, testing these alternate explanations to be ruled out before fully going with the one remaining answer, which is that the problem you are proposing is exactly as you say it is.) You accusing me, and in a manner that implies I'm one of many, is you holding "conspiracy theories" about some malevolent group of authors on this board. That is you being conspiratorial.
This behavior is completely irrational and unrealistic. I think I'm well within my rights to take the tone I am taking considering what is in front of me. Perhaps if you want your problems addressed, you should attempt to keep more of a cool head and approach the issue rationally rather than assuming the men in black coats are out to get you.
Just look at how you are behaving now. Once again, you tried to draw up a crazy victim narrative for yourself while painting me as somehow being obligated to automatically believe you or that I am responsible for doing your leg-work somehow. You are quite frankly behaving like a child. So, I would strongly recommend taking a breather and cooling your head for a moment.
You are clearly in the wrong here, and have been since long before this argument started. Stop being a dick.Just look at how you are behaving now. Please make this the last response to this particular argument. You've done the best you can. Any more would just be wasting energy.Lastly, I didn't come here to fight you. I have no qualms with you

You're the one who involved me. You misunderstood the intent of the entire thread, formed your own biased opinions on the subject, and then ranted at anyone who didn't fit those opinions. Now go have your meltdown somewhere else, unless you intend to provide some more evidence of the skipped chapters. And now, again, I ask the same question I have asked 3 times and you have not answered even once.
