Literally only @Bochi responded, alas...

Gawrgaru-dono unfortunately declined (damn you, ohko!) and Ames is already technically with Eochaidh, so... (Also, ohko, don't tell me you are just going let me control Ames, pls participate otherwise the meeting feels too small to be worth it)

We have @Reborn_Cat with Yew (and Gwendolyn?)
We have @fyrre with Audriana and Lysander (technically representing Saurridge with the absence of other House Members) (?and Gwendolyn?)
I think @The_Everdistant_Utopia has something to throw in, but am still not certain of what yet...
So what I haven’t fully understood yet is what the meeting between the nobles is for?

What is there to plan? Or well… for a scouting mission ordinarily the plan would be:
1. Anya flies there and scouts
2. Mission complete

x-x Or well, what might there be that requires uh… more than a dozen people in a scouting party with power levels that are frighteningly lopsided and numerous nobles XD

So um, I think the challenge needs to be established before it’s even remotely possible to form a plan.

Or alternatively say there’s no plan and just make obstacles appear along the way XD

I see I see, so you're gonna get Garu drunk, then scam him into buying a failed engineering product~ *nod nod*

Truly as expected of Alberon v37~
... this is actually a good idea.

:blob_hide: Sir Ames, incidentally, might be looking to hire engineers for Project Starry Death
:blob_hide: Interesting...

I’m pretty sure I mentioned this at some point...

Group Quest Objectives:
- Work out a viable path through the island
- Map out anti-personnel traps (if any)
- Map out anti-siege fortifications (if any)
- Find out the size of the hostile force (optional)
- Sabotage the defences (optional)
- Secret Objective (optional)

...Like, on the very first post of the convo.

Yes! But they’re not very… plannable items... if you know what I mean? But rather something that happens as the group starts moving? Like you can't plan for anti-personnel traps unless you've found them already >.<

That's what I mean by not knowing what to write for any of the characters for a meeting between nobles >.<

It's more like, "I'm ready let's go, yosh~!"

That last part would get people killed in any operation setting, yanno. Going onto hostile ground with no clear plan of action is a recipe for easily preventable disasters. Especially since so many nobles joined up (I didn’t see this coming at all) and all of them have their own motivations, going “Leeeeeeroy Jenkins!” is rather foolhardy, no?

How will the scouting party proceed? At what sort of situation will they retreat? How much supplies do they have on hand? What are the contingency plans for if supplies run out, or if the airship isn’t able to come collect them? Have they established a clear fallback point if the need arises?

I’m trying to limit the casualties to the nameless NPCs, but the way it’s going I won’t be surprised if half the party gets annihilated. Or is that the plan from the get go?

There are details that Bochi will reveal in the main meeting. He's already listed them and highlighted their importance broadly, but I'll give a few hypothetical examples:

"So, here is what we know exactly about the situation...blah blah magical disturbance...blah blah cannot send flying scouts due to vision being blocked..."

"We'll disembark from Cimon's Tail, since..."

"There might be something at this junction, so before we get there remember to raise your evil-sealing wards..."

"I've handed out flares to key members of the party. If we must retreat from overwhelming forces, toss them and immediately back off, and run to one of the pickup points we've set-up.

Yes that makes sense!

I think part of it for me is that there's a narrative gap that I'm not sure all of us are on the same page right now. For instance, what is the "seriousness" of the quest and what kind of "story tone" are you going for (or expecting the players to go with)? For instance, if you're planning a tragic quest, is this something that all of us should match our characters to?

A critical thing about AGSA is that there's no formal power limits on characters. The result of this is that most of us currently in this quest are quite overpowered, which makes it challenging to GM the quest in a way that kills off the party in a way that players are prepared for (with respect to everyone's main stories). IMO, I think it would be a good idea to communicate what expectations you have, and some of us may be willing to volunteer for certain sacrificial lamb roles -- although for my characters, I would generally prefer to have advance notice so I can consider if it fits well with my story on the main site.

I'm also a bit confused (from an authorial standpoint) about why all of our characters gathered here.

Clearly, it's for something extremely important with high stakes, and it's obviously something that our characters know about (since they were asked to come and they agreed) -- but for some reason, I (as an author) have no idea what that is. xD

It's apparently important/threatening enough that you have leaders from several noble factions as well as the leader of Runeswick Island (Yew) all converging onto the same place for a "scouting" mission.

For me, the only interpretation is that our characters know something about this mission that we (as authors) don't.

Which is a little bit mind boggling to write for, and ultimately I feel like I'm writing a lot of filler ("Hey how have you've been"), because the stakes of the mission aren't exactly clear. The tone is really bizarre as a result, because it's unclear if we're writing "The Night Before the Battle of Helms Deep and We're All Going To Die So We Need To Be Serious Now" or "Oh this is just a normal mission let's chill bro".

Right! I'd preferred if we had things set in stone and were clear. I'm having a hard time writing because I don't know what's considered canon or I just have entirely nothing to go off on.

*Grumbles in so many nobles gathering that things ended up taking a completely different route*

Originally, I was planning for it to be a regular scouting mission, just with some higher stakes as well as a mastermind reveal partway, but since so many big shots are here that’s impossible now. Though it does open up other possibilities so this isn’t a bad thing, but still, oh well, it can’t be helped.

Since setting some stakes would help things, how does ‘a growing evil that’ll gradually take over the surrounding islands’ sound?
