Got a 4 star review from someone who didn't like my story. It was a nice review, and they said they thought the writing was good. However, the story was not their cup of tea.
Moon Orchard Log Entry #7:

Certain cloud trees have been documented loudly encouraging neighboring trees to endure harsh winds and falling debris without complaint. However, these same specimens emit high vocalizations of distress at even the gentlest of breezes against their bark.

Researchers suspect the resilience may function primarily in one direction.
So many times I got baited to click stories with male protagonist but female on the cover. :blob_no:
I spent a whole whopping 4 minutes trying to draw in Kirta, but it sucks massive balls because my shitty drawing tablet screws up with my inputs.
As a reader, someone might use judgment about a character's actions based on their values and beliefs about how actions "should" be performed.

As authentic characters, they act based on the "current state" of their world, based on their personality, beliefs, values, and even their trauma.
I think outside of a grammar checker, or having a friend look at it, the best free recourse for editing is a screen reader. That way you can hear your story and catch awkward phrasing and the like. Of course you can read it aloud yourself, but for longer works, that is more work than necessary imo.
AI ‘enhanced’ writing is such a slog to get through. It treats every moment as a 11 yet its descriptions and prose are quite average. Every moment is the most important moment a sentence becomes twice as long, or multiple sentences. With frivolous ornamentation that make its writing seem purple if not for how bland its prose is.

I was thinking more along the line you thought that this was a romance story, but psych there are wizards and shit. But yes, the whole there was no stakes in the first place twists were quite common too. I mean look at the cheat stories of today, or the reincarnated back in time/into a story I know like the back of my hand of the era.

Some of those ornamentation are authors using show don't tell. Or an unsuccesful attempt of one. The sentences become longer because of that. Try not to mistake those for AI 'enhanced' but I'm sure you already know the difference.

The difference is easy to tell after a page. Human purple prose reads different to AI enhancement. For one they tend to focus on different things, humans are willing to break grammar rules for added flair, and the word choice for human purple prose tends to be less boring.
