All jokes about me being princess aside. Can be anything, a real one, fantasy one, doesn't matter. Can be made out of any material. Bone crowns, crowns made out of precious metals, common metals, carved from gems, wood, etc.
Walder: Some would say it's a poor king who crowns himself with bronze, Your Grace.
Robb: Bronze and iron are stronger than gold and silver. The old Kings of Winter wore such a sword-crown.
Walder: Small good it did them when the dragons came.

Walder Frey and Robb Stark

I did not think of it that way.
Aye, only those who achieved amazing feats of war can wear one, and it is a sign of leadership among the many tribes. I just love the alternativeness of it, instead of the old boring metal glittered in gems, the feathers offered something else, and I am a sucker for plumage anything (I'm looking at you, Greek and Roman crested helm).

They gave me a-many inspiration for world building

I assume you also like certain Chinese helmets?

Indeed, yes. I grew up playing Dynasty Warrior, so, well, can't fault a guy for liking Lu Bu. I mean, that man is majestic, and OP as all hell. His headwear, heguan, tho, is mostly operatic custom, similar to how the Viking horn came to be. But the later Chinese helmet with plumes too, me likey.

Another bizarre one that I love is the fugu/puffer fish helmet of Kiribati. That thing is just weird and ugly and I love it

Historical:

1) The Romanov Imperial Crown
2) The Crown of Kazan
3) The Crown of St. Stephen
4) The Crown of Lombardy

Fictional:

1) The Bamboo Crown (from my story, Paulina Rex)
