Do you include some random character who is a teacher and just put in some dialogue in the background or do you write your characters in school but arent in class and just sitting around somewhere doing something?

The possibilities are only limited by the imagination!

Waking up in the morning, walking to school, before school, during class, P.E. class, breaks between classes, lunchtime, after school, club time, walking home, weekends, summer vacation, any and all of the above can be all kinds of scenes for your characters~

Unless sensei is an important part of the story, they don't need a ton of dialogue or really any if you stick with prose for them and skip over any verbal formalities. It's up to you and what aspects of school life you want to focus on.

Unless your school endorses fighting, it will be just as boring as a standard "go to work" scene.

Normally no one cares about randos unless they do something, like getting faceslapped.

The only notable teachers and random mooks are the very good ones and the very bad ones.

school life includes:
the student body president and the student council. (Make sure she has glasses so she can push them up)
2. jocks
3. mean girls
4. Audio visual club/Manga clubs.
5. Sexy teachers (guy or girl)
6. and a strict and stuffy teacher who gives our hapless high School MC a hard time.

it is the way.

Why does this look like some sort of a RomCom setting?

IMO, that depends on your narration. If you use fabulous wordings, describe character expressions, exaggerations, etc. Even ordinary routine tasks can be entertaining to read.

Let's see, for example:

????? ?

Again, I sit on the same classroom, the same seat, listening to the babbling of the senile old history teacher. When he is teaching in the class, he is like chanting some AOE sleep spell, immobilizing everyone nearby.

Nevertheless, none of the students dared to sleep.

The student in front of my seat even looked like he is suffering with constipation, enduring the urge to go to lalalaland with all of his might.

Class scenes are great for social conflict. Students trapped somewhere under strict rules of etiquette, with enemies or love interests or other people it's very tense to be around, who have to pretend to be paying attention to an authority figure and might get called out to prove they were paying attention at any moment? You can get some good scenes in classrooms, even if the class itself isn't relevant to anything.

Of course, it's generally good practice to also make the class relevant to something (for example, if your audience needs to know something about your world's history later, sneak it in as a teacher question that your character wasn't paying attention to and is now super embarrassed about not being able to answer), because why waste the classroom?

reminds me i need to start writing some stories set around college themed. before i move on and forget how college life is esp with the diff stages. bit of drag and bore thu, don't got much in those plots so more slice of life w/o anything funny or wholesome. for stories i wanna write in school life, it probably be around part time jobs, people finding someone they connect to instead of being lost in the sea of people at school that don't really know or care much about the person, gossip or fallout among social groups or cliques in classes/schools the characters hang out, grades and pressure from others and themselves to excel, etc.

maybe a story of people experiencing loneliness, pressure to survive financial and socially, and on the verge of breaking down. sure she has eyeglasses. hates contact lenses but always crack their eye glasses bc too clumsy and facing eye strain and increasing nearsightedness.

You made a couple of mistakes in a few words, but don't worry, I've got your back. It's not magic, nobles, and harems. It's GL, Gender-Bender, and smut\r-18. (y)
godDAMMIT I've got magic and nobles but I don't have any GL or smut. My story is doomed.

You can include the quiet kid or/and the school shooter to make the MC's experience more realistic.

If I remember everything correctly, tweak your MC to be 'cold'\'edgy'\'cool'\'smart' and start posting on RR. It will save your story.
He's an oversensitive lovable dumbarse but he does make a LOT of witty teen quips, does that count?

This is the most American thing I've seen anyone say on this forum.
