Would you trade talents?

I've said for a while, people love being friends with artists but hate being friends with writers. That's because it only takes a few seconds to appreciate a piece of artwork, whereas reading a story (even a short one) is a time commitment. I can't tell you how many times someone I know has expressed an interest in my writing, promised they were going to read it, and then never did because they "don't have time." These same people will gush endlessly over somebody else's artwork if they post it on Facebook or Twitter.

If you're here, then I think it's a pretty safe assumption that you like to write. Chances are, you think you do it pretty well too. Imagine if someone told you they could exchange your writing talent for drawing talent. No learning or practicing necessary, you just instantly become good at drawing while losing your ability to write good stories. Would you do it?

I might be tempted, but I'd probably end up saying no. I do love it when my art gets attention (it's how I measure my miserable worth as a human being) plus it's easier to convince people to commission you for pictures than it is stories. But in the end, I just love writing too much, and I don't think drawing pictures would give me the same sense of creative fulfillment as typing "THE END" on the last page of an epic story.

Trade. It'd be easier to get a team to produce your own games when you're the art guy, since "everybody can write, so the writing isn't important!!1111!!". Also cash.

I traded in my writing talent for parenting talent, though it did (does) take a lot of learning and practicing.

Nah fam, I like my words to myself.

Doing art is good, ngl.

But, what would your heart say?

I prefer persuading people with words rather than with a piece of drawing. Arts may be a great medium to express an idea, a quote, or an event, but will it last long? It would need a better treatment, then it would get damaged over time. What of words? You saw them, they never rot.

Adam Smith, Napoleon, Uncle Sam, heck, even my own country's underdog/martyr Tan Malaka has a lot of sayings that could be quoted for the better of his nation, my country. I, and those who started to realize the truth of the past, owe him and a lot of people thanks.

You might be surprised just how long a word can last.

Can I trade my talent at being an insufferable asshole for some drawing talent? Then I'd be able to draw and write and I'd make comic books.

Then the whole world would've been overwhelmed by drawing artists, my friend. xD

Eh, I have software (well had and will soon have again, thanks to an early birthday present) software that makes up for a lot of my difficulties with drawing so no, I would not trade.
