I have an incoming chapter that's a little over 2k words and I wondered if it's possible to just publish that particular chapter, cause I feel like it's important to the story. What do you guys think?

Yeah, 2k is average cause it takes about 10 minutes to read. Anything less is forgettable imo.

I read advice from some well established authors that the best number of words is something like 1.8k, but 1.5-2k is the sweetspot. I have chapters that are occasionally less than 1.5k, and some that go as high as 2.4k. Yes, 2k is fine.

My advice is to only make the chapters as long or short as they need to be.

Don't try to reach a predetermined word count in each chapter as it will end up dragging the story down in both ways for something as silly as a number that doesn't really matter in the end. If the idea of the chapter is short you will have to see how to stretch it, and if the idea is long but doesn't fit you will have to cutout things that you might want to tell or give a better context.

Just do the chapters as far as you think you have said all you have to say about it.

My chapters vary a lot depending on the topic of each one, usually one of a normal day in a coffee shop has a length of only 1 800 words, while in other occasions in a battle there are chapters of up to 10 000 words.

And to this day nobody has complained about it, because they are for the content, not a number. If a battle is interesting they don't mind if it is longer than normal, and the same happens the other way

Dont be afraid to post. Never seen a reader complain about a chapters length unless the writer went full grr martin and dedicated 2k words to describing porridge. I do 1k a day because its achievable and fits into my scheduled insomnia

Serious readers prefer long chapters. The busy ones prefer it shorter. But it doesn't mean that your story can't be read by either two, so just post it if you deem it important.

Go with your usual word count. Like if your chapters are like an average of 1k, I think splitting it up into 2 two chapters would be better.
