Will you hate someone who earns more than you?

Just a question. I am not rich, but I have savings. The thing is, I act as if I am broke, and reign myself in when it comes to stuff which won't help me long term. That is why I don't buy video games anymore, play only Don't Get Angry 3, which I have for ages, and count every cent (it is stotinki actually, but I just wanted to be understood by everyone.)

But when it is about food, I don't care how much fruit costs, or vegetables, or meat. Every Friday I buy pizza, depending on whatever it is raining or not. And since I have been losing weight, I do buy myself new clothes now and again, since I don't want to look homeless, wearing my now baggy clothes. And not from the second hand shop, either.

Would you hate someone like that? Even if they don't try to rub it in your nose? Because the people at the check-out at the supermarket today just saw that I gave out 20 Euro for fruit, had a shopping bag from a local clothing shop, and they were all glaring. It was not like I was holding up the line, or anything. Most of them had more stuff than me. It is just that the pants I bought for myself were pricey, since nothing else fit me in the shop (I am not so fat that I have too big of a problem finding clothes in that shop, but the jeans were all ripped, and I hate ripped jeans. The pants were the only thing which I considered good enough to wear to work.)

So, do such people piss you off?

Good for them.
Do envying them will do me any good?
If yes, then I am jealous. If no, then why do I even care?

There are people who likes to flaunt, and there also people who don't give a Shit.
Maybe it is just a Bulgarian thing, I don't know. No one told me a thing when I was spending like crazy during my time in Romania. It was my first time abroad, and I just wanted to try everything.

And they have such lovely sites to see. Such wonderful galleries, museums, palaces. I went there to study, but it was there where I started sightseeing for the first time.

No, you presumably got your wealth through your own work and not through the exploitation of employees you hired. Even then it would only piss me off if that wealth was used to hurt even more people. You just bought stuff, only weirdo’s would care.

If I would say that I don't feel jealous then that would be the biggest bullshit that I have ever spat out in my life.

Though, as they say: Their money, their decision
Even if they decide to flex on me like that and being an asshole the most I'll do is probably just do ignore them. Being jealous is fine in my eyes but initiating conflict off that jealousy? That's where it stops. In a sense, if they earned that money or not it would also not be my place to judge. If they worked hard to earn it, good for them. If not? Oh well life is unfair! Anyways.

Tldr: as long as they aren't trying to actively harm me with that money of theirs then I don't see the reason to retaliate with scrutiny and unreasonable hate.

The only ones who would make a fuss out of it are people who are weak minded, like East Asians - I swear their vanity is so high that they are more willing to drag other down than improve themselves.

Nah, I hung out with someone filthy rich before, like, born rich, got his own job without nepotism (though a lot of support money to start off) and still filthy rich but we hung out fine, dude's a bit of a manipulative narcissist but eh you can argue it's not the money that made that.

That's great. And that is not just Bulgarian things. It is very common here in Asia. But you need to ignore them.

Just enjoy trip, have fun with research, and meet people who don't care what you do or how much you spend.

I used to play League (Master rank), of course I'm racist. It gave me psychological damage that will never heal. That account got permanently banned for Hate Speech lol.

And I just genuinely dislike East Asian work culture.

I seriously don’t get why people get jealous. It’s fucking none of their business where you spend your money. They see you buy clothes that are out of their range, but they do not see how you budget the rest of your spending.

It’s very possible to afford an expensive item with budgeting, payment plans, and with priorities set right!

Whether you spend your savings or income on whatever spiritual food is your choice and people who get jealous should spend that time on reflecting on themselves instead being ugly to strangers.

also 20€ for fruits is totally normal with inflation nowadays

Huh?... Like, this doesn't mean factor into my perspective. It is alien to even consider judging someone's spending habits when it comes to being healthy. W-why? Why would they glare at you?
I am so confused! :sweating_profusely:

I don't know. The lady at the cooked food section was looking at my bag, and then went off. I thought, well, she had something else to do. But then when she came back, the glare was still there. And the customers were no different.
