Why is there no deaf protagonist tag?

i don’t know that many people write that. Depending on your pov you straight up can’t have dialog. Writing in sign language just doesn’t translate well to text

I have actually written a deaf protag. It's no different from writing dialogue for a multi-lingual Protag. You could use a different language (If you yourself are multi-lingual), You could do the classic differing dialogue tags (I.e.: "Hey," She said in english before switching to Spanish, "How are you today?") Or you could just have them read lips and don't describe what they hear.

In mine, I had her sign. "You're bleeding," She signed. The soldier's gaze fell to where his shirt was indeed turning red.

You just have to find some way of explaining why most people can understand the language.

I've seen at least one short story like that, but never anything longer (or it was a section in a longer work where one or more characters were temporarily deaf).

Though I suppose you could make a nice long story about a kid who is deaf, dumb and blind, but sure plays a mean pinball...

I should reconsider my decision to not post mine. I had 5 full chapters. I gave it up as my reason for writing it vanished. That said, it was still pretty good. She was a half gnome that was deaf due to a magical explosion that permanently damaged all working of the inner ear. She felt vibrations to "feel" sounds through her long ears. She still couldn't hear what the sound itself was, but she could feel the presence of the sound. She signed and wrote with and on whatever was available to communicate.

She was a "blade tamer". that is, she could tame animals and beasts that would allow her to summon weapons, depending on what the animal was. Her snake provided a staff, her tiger provided a shield, and her pair of ferrets provided gauntlets.

not enough stories around to warrant it. i think Tony doesnt want to overflow the tag systems with barely used tags like NU suffers from.

Is this really it..? there is the vocaloid tag, which has a single chapter story on hiatus. That, I must add, was made due because the tag was unused.

Without the tag, it's harder to find the stories that have deaf protagonists and count them. There's also less incentive to write such a story.

Leaving the tag out is bad. It should exist.

With blind and deaf protagonisfs it's easier to write since they can still speak and hear.
Being deaf is a double debuff of not being able to speak and hear depending on how severe the deafness is. The issue of communicating is a big hurdle.

There's lots of tags not available - ScribbleHub is very limited to what tags are available, in general.
