Did you know that 2/10 doctors recommend eating apples?

Now that i filled you with useless information, lets get to the point.

I don't get it.
On the royal road site the people are nice and stuff and they talk about how this site's people are toxic and on this site you guys talk about how they're toxic.
Huh? Is this some kind of physiological warfare going on?
I mean, on Royal road there are a lot of people who would try to scam you but they are obvious, you know?
i get at least 10 messages everyday saying to add them on discord and when i do they say actually i am a web novel contractor or do you want to make your novel famous. Like this is site is any better, i still get those offers here. Well sometimes.

???? ?? ???s reverse psychological drama?

From my experience, people on RR have much higher and more specific expectations from stories, and they tend to be much harsher in their reviews and feedback, especially in case of original stories that significantly differ from the norm on RR. I can't say much about forums because I've only visited them a couple of times.

Not sure about SH, but people here tend to be more casual and supportive, which may attract some subpar stories that have been bombed elsewhere. SH is known for smut for a reason, there's no smoke without fire even if it's exaggerated.

Though a significant part of this is definitely bad experiences. If someone had something bad happen on RR and they move to SH, it'll be difficult to change their opinion. The same thing happens the other way around.

Third thing, people with negative opinions are going to be the most vocal. If you imagine three people who like SH, one of which likes RR, the second dislikes it, and the third is neutral, then generally speaking the first one is unlikely to praise RR because why would they praise RR here, the second one is pretty likely to complain if only as a form of venting, and the third one will most likely say nothing.

Note: This is pre-soy boy RR. Post-soy boy RR is just as worse.

I don't really read in RR much but based on the few things I've observed is that they're pretty harsh on non-mainstream and non-original stuff. There was one that's especially bad where the first 10-15 reviews of a fanfic was filled with 1 star reviews because they didn't like the 1st chapter. Well at least they're honest enough to admit they only read the first chapter.

Well anyway, the reviews section of RR has now been randomized due to some ratings manipulation done by a group of writers, most if not all of them were in something like the Top 10 trending section.

Wait, for real? From the few times I checked there Scribblehub was just mentioned in passing? Post some screenshots, I need to know if we're in a gang war with the RR forum :blob_evil:. Anyways, I gotta pretend I'm not just replying to this thread to seek out drama sooooo....

Our hatred of Royal Road is purely theatrical, but if we did have to deal with them for some reason, it would be very easy. We'd brandish our suggestive book cover at them and they’d be compelled to approach. “That’s not very cool,” their moderator would say, confident in their superior morals and popularity from their partnership with Kindle. They'd reject our novels for inappropriate content and run circles around our appeals, waiting for us to mentally exhaust ourselves. "We can't have this on our platform, our sponsors don't approve of the woman in the white latex bodysuit on your cover, it's quite sexual, you see, and isn't suited for a general aud-" and then we'd hit them with the generic monstergirl system novel, with literal bear smut on chapter 2, which they would not have noticed because they didn't actually skim the novel and the readers are too busy with the bear turning into a sexy monstergirl two chapters later to report the fact that Gary Stud banged a literal bear.

Honestly, having writen a LGBTQ-heavy story featuring 4 trans protagonist, and met only positive reviews so far on RR.

So I'm actually a bit surprised, as the reputation I had heard of made me feel like RR would chew and spit me out.

That said, they do comment, review and rate far less over there. Engagement is much higher on SH, and for a small, unknown writer, that's actually a good thing.

I don't hate RR. I like it and enjoy the readers who comment on my stories there. My only negative experiences comes from its occasional authors who PM you, telling you that they liked your story and asking for a swap. So, as a good human being, you accept the swap to help out the new author, do it, and then they tell you that your kind of story is not for them. Derp.

An author on RR called me a bigot and insisted that I promote ableism and discrimination in my works, despite the fact that I trusted in the intelligence of my readers to understand that such a way of life was bad, based on the examples from the story. It's like they expect having a utopia in the setting from the start.

Meanwhile, the said author in their novel had a family showing another conscience in the body of their infant, with the said infant being alive and well, and that other conscience took the boy's body. Later the author didn't understand when I had troubles and struggled to understand why the family members were ok with it. No conflict over sacrificing their brother, no fear that their parents may do the same to them...

I was almost tempted to ask why my story was worse in terms of morals, but then decided that it was better to keep writing and learning. Basically, the only bad thing I had ever experienced with the RR was the authors who either forgot to return the review swap or never gave your story a chance while you tried to read everything with an open mind and found good sides to their stories.

Gratz for getting positive ones (y) (dont forget to link it, im interested)

Also
Skipping the fact the use of the word of "trans" that i dislike as i prefer "genderbender",
i think the reason is that its like the woke in gaming.
As long it makes sense, as long the plot is good, people DONT CARE if the mc is a male, female, futa, nogender alien, gender398, or a mimic.

You forgot the 2 rules of
1) Humans are shitty lifeforms (especially in 2024-2025)
2) Its internet
and my 3rd rule : A pm/dm is often bad news. (just like a letter in war time, no news is good news)

Personally, I prefer reading there because they have very good stories like super supportive, the cabin is always hungry, super minion etc etc, and recommended people generally stick to uploading. So as a reader I have no problem with it.

There's a saying about this that's common in Cultivation Novels, something about burning bridges and stuff.
Anyway, just sharing, that's surprisingly not uncommon. I've read a good amount of testimonies about this practice in some subreddits like r/litrpg (tho I don't read any litrpg).
