We write the way we do because of how writing has evolved over thousands of years across various cultures. Some cultures have different writing styles and it's a result of the writing implementation used in their cultures past.

Technically speaking, most of our writing doesnt have left or right justification. The words are stored as a bunch of magnetic charges arranged haphazardly on a spiral platter, with a different set of magnetic charges as a legend telling you where is which.

Absolutely no rules for what sequences of charges means what though.... just gotta pray that it meets some convention you know how to deal with.

So I just read the reason behind this. Every language that is right to left has an origin of clay tablets. Basically carved writing. However the origin of left to right is due to ink being a major early influence. Some outlier languages such as Japanese can be explained by rice paper manufacturering techniques. The reason we don't use centerline writing is simply down to practicality.

Because history? Hebrew iirc writes right to left, Japanese does it one step further and does it right to left and up to down.
Those barbarian languages that were influenced by Latin write left to right.
